I've had come around sundown since last fri, a few days before release,so this has given me a few days to digest it properly and give an informed opinion on it,CAS is easily weaker than both Because of the times and Only by the night. I'm not counting the previous early albums here coz they were in a different style and are a different chapter in the bands history. CAS cries out for balls, creativity and imagination and gets none of the above. This album smacks of a band that has lost it's mojo and are clearly resting on their laurels and it's probably the most MOR album the band have made thus far. There's nothing that even comes close to Sex on Fire,Charmer,On Call etc on this record. Pyro is probably by far the best track and should have been the first single. "The Immortals","Pick up truck","Beach side" "The End" and "Radioactive" are all ok/good tracks but nothing thats gonna make your hairs stand on ends! I played the previous 2 albums to this one to death but iam already bored with COS after only 4 days!

COS will still sell by the bucketload but this time there's not a lot here for casual fans who only bought the previous album for "sex on fire" so COS is unlikely to be the 6 mill seler that album was.

very disappointing by their high standards. Clearly they need to go back to basics as any edge and songwriting skill's have been clearly neutered by their meteoric rise to stadium giants. in the next 2 yrs KOL will be nothing more than U2 clones. Sad. Worth getting but keep your expectations low.

There are a few outstanding tracks on this album. Overall, it's pretty dull and uninspiring, I think everyone including myself expected more.
On the day of release, I eagerly logged onto the Itunes Store to listen to the previews. Now, if you go and do this, you will notice nearly every track sounds the same, which shocked me, as they've always had many different styles on one album, especially in Only By The Night with the likes of 17, Notion and Use Somebody. After this disappointment, I decided I should probably not judge by previews, as they're generally quite deceptive with only 30 seconds of the song. My fiance bought me this for Christmas, and my first listen to it was while I had the flu, lucky me, and only a few tracks made me go 'wow'.
Below is the track listing and my opinions on all of the songs.
1. The End.
One of my three favourites of the album. Such a powerful bassline and beautiful, beautiful guitar playing. I like how Jared's chords fit in perfectly with Caleb's singing and the pauses. I like the lyrics in this song and the way they are sung, especially parts like "Said I ain't got a home, I'll forever roam.." It's a fantastic, start to the album, and leaves you with high hopes for the rest of it. I also liked the ironic song name, and the variety of instruments used in the composition. The ending of the song is absolutely beautiful. Overall, it's an amazing song, just what I wanted to hear from them.
2. Radioactive.
The first single from CAS. I was so, so, so excited to see on the music channels "New Kings of Leon Video Exclusive." Admittedly, it's not the best song ever. Yes, it's upbeat and happy but it's nothing in comparison to some of their old greats.

Some long reviews here so I thought I'd do a short one...
I'm glad that KoL have got off the 'U2 stadium rock train' and are back to some of the mellower stuff that I first started to listen them for back when they started out. It may not be Youth and Young Manhood but it is still a fine 'back to their roots' album.
Don't let those who only want the radio friendly KoL put you off this CD (despite its awful cover art!).
