A complicated chain of events is set in motion when hit-men Dosmo Pizzo (Danny Aiello) and Lee Woods (James Spader) carry out a killing in Fernando Valley, Los Angeles. Detectives Taylor and Strayer (Eric Stoltz and Jeff Daniels) are soon on their trail, but along the way a diverse cast of characters become involved - a failed writer/director, a rich art-dealer, his assistant, and Becky, ex-wife of the murder victim.

Dosmo played by Danny Aiello is a hit man not all bad, but not a sweetheart. He and Lee, played by James Spader are on a job to kill an unfaithful husband. Teri Hatcher, is the wife who hates the ex, Charlize Theron plays Lee's lover, who had an affair with Becky's husband. Confused yet?
Two cops, Wes, played by Eric Stoltz, and Alvin, played by Jeff Daniels, are out to rid Alvin's community of a sex shop. The cops stumble onto the murder scene, and Wes is thrilled to be working on a real crime.
Meanwhile, we meet Hopper, a most obnoxious art dealer, an obnoxious British art dealer. Hopper's secretary, played by Glenne Headly, the only sane and good person in the film. And, There you have it, a few more people thrown in, but they are extraneous for the most part. Have fun putting this all together.

You may not have heard about this film, but it's BRILLIANT! Go and buy it, rent it, or tape it off of the television, I don't care which. This film should not be missed!
This follows events over a 48 hour period as we learn how an unconnected group of people [like ‘Crash’ 2004] are linked together by a murder, but all is not as it seems. Each of the characters is quirky and well played. Jeff Daniels excels as the loose cannon ’valley’ detective, James Spader is superb as the ’hitman, Glenne Headley enchants as the mousey secretary while Teri hatcher and Charlize Theron [in her first credited role as the seductive girlfriend] provide the eye candy.
The single disc offers play, scene index and extras[ trailer, featurette, soundbites, B roll]. With some swearing, an extended topless scene, some adventure type violence, but it’s the violent and graphic ’girl-fight’ that makes this an 18 rating. With a dark dry sense of humour, helped by a similar soundtrack, this only falls down on a slightly sluggish pace in places and the fact that the main twist is revealed far too early. Pick up a cheap copy and you won’t be disappointed.
