Ghostly comedy from the director of 'City Slickers', Ron Underwood. Four people are killed in a bus crash at exactly the same time Thomas is born. It transpires that he can see and hear the four ghosts and not only this, they have decided to tidy up the loose ends of their lives through him. One of them wants to sing on stage, another wants to return something he has stolen, one wants to find true love while another wants to be re-united with her children.
Robert Downey Jr. has never been more charming than in this comedy about a yuppie who is revisited in adulthood by the spirits of four people who had been his friends as a child. The ghosts (Kyra Sedgwick, Charles Grodin, Alfre Woodard, Tom Sizemore) all have unfinished business in this world before they can move on to the next, and Downey's character agrees to let them inhabit his body while they sort it all out. The appealing cast alone strongly recommends this movie, but Downey's remarkable facility for physical comedy--manifesting the personalities of his supernatural pals as they possess him--is a riot. Elisabeth Shue makes the best of her part as the hero's girlfriend; Leaving Las Vegas was still ahead of her, but one can see her talent straining to get out here. --Tom Keogh

They become his friends while he grows, visible only to him, but when their presence risks him to be considered a freak, or insane, they choose to disappear. Twenty years later, they discover why they are still glued to the boy, now a man and reappear devastating his well organized life as a bank executive.
Why watch it: The four ghosts, all of them fantastic actors, the impersonations of the four by Robert Downey Junior when his body is "possessed" by them and a fantastic american anthem a cappella by the same Robert Downey.
The DVD is a UK edition but it has several Dubbings, German, Italian, Spanish and Russian and also has the subtitles in the same languages plus english, making it enjoyable also to the non english mothertongue as me. There are no extras on the DVD but of course being a movie of the VHS era there were no interviews or making of at the time.
