Product description

Product Description

Robert Wagner, Terry Moore, Broderick Crawford and Buddy Ebsen star in this absorbing drama about a young, self-centered recruit who comes of age during WWII. Sam Gifford (Wagner) is a successful cotton planter who treats his sharecroppers as if they were little more than farm machinery. But during combat in the Pacific, as he sees "quality" people crack, endures life under a sadistic officer (Crawford), and learns true friendship, from a "cropper" (Ebsen), Gifford slowly discovers there's more to a person than social class and good breeding.

Between Heaven And Hell is a great 50's world war 2 war film, which comes with a nice Blu-ray transfer, its not the best I have seen but well worth upgrading from your old DVD.

The film ratio is in 2.35:1 which looks good, the sound is in LPCM, and the good news their are Subtitles: English HOH.

You get audio commentary with Richard Fleischer & Paul Talbot.

Original theatrical trailer.

What a terrrific war film, BETWEEN HEAVEN AND HELL on Bluray... Very nice and sharp print good colour and terrific stereo sound in places and it sounds like 4 track with voices following the people on the screen....An old Fox CinemaScope film Good one Recommended.

War in the Pacific, through the eyes of a southern plantation owner, who learns to appreciate his sharecropper subordinates who he used to treat with contempt back in the cotton fields. The film tackles some meaty subjects; fear, cowardice, bravery, horrors of war, battle fatigue, madness of war and maybe even homosexuality? Not normal fare in its day, so an admirable effort, but maybe looking a bit hokey today in its approach. But a worthy attempt and a good film.

I saw this movie when it was first released in the 50's and was blown away, no false heroics, no Gung Ho heroes.
It was like nothing I' seen before, the characters were real people, traumatised by combat and the combat scenes were far more realistic than shown before. Wagner gives his best performance (I was shocked when he dismissed the film in his autobiography)and Ebsen and Crawford were both excellent as were Homier and Brad Dexter in supporting roles. This was like the Private Ryan movie of it's day.
