The cookies are brilliant, unfortunately after second used the handle broke and I could fix it
The instructions contain three recipes, vanilla, chocolate and savory biscuits. To understand how to use the cutter you need to follow the pictures on the box itself as this information is not on the instruction sheet.
To start, I found it really messy and awkward to fill the barrel, once I had done this I went to press the hand leaver and nothing happened. So, in order to try and press out the cookie dough, I found myself having to push down the long leaver, try the hand presser and with my third hand try and scrape the dough off the cutter to form a biscuit. Like I said I am not really gifted in making cookies, but this seemed to me to be a lot of hassle!
My cookies before cooking looked as seen in the photo, nothing like the desired effect that was advertised on the box. The cookies came out cooked as just large round shapes not the delicate shapes seen on the box.
Not sure whether it was my lack of skills, but I definitely won't be using this again.
for my grandaughter and she and her partner love the ease of using it too.
Don’t get me wrong, the press is hard work unless you have a vice-like grip as the cookie dough is a fairly solid mass that you need to squeeze out through a selection of discs. But the end results are (relatively) neatly formed cookies that, with practise, should be uniform in size and shape.
The press comes with a leaflet that vaguely describes how to use it; it is easier to just have a go to be honest. Putting it together requires reference to the box and leaflet; it is fairly intuitive but I missed the fact that the disc needs to be placed inside the press before the bottom gets screwed on (a once only mistake).
There are three recipes in the leaflet and more on the site; I chose to make the cheese crackers from the leaflet but went against instructions and used pre-shredded cheese, so I anticipate that made the mix a little thicker than ideal. I also left out the Worcestershire Sauce as that is not suitable for vegetarians.
The recipes use cups as measurements and I halved the quantities so should have made about 4 dozen cookies (sounds a lot but these are small). I only got half that amount but that was down to inexperience and no fault of the press.
The cookie mixture is pressed out onto a baking sheet that should not be greased. Although I was concerned that would mean items sticking, I think the mix has been formulated to effectively be self-greasing as all came away without any problem after cooking. I made only half the quantity expected as I double pressed each one rather than doing a single press as instructed – it is a learning curve to ensure you get a perfect cookie each time.Read more ›
