So unexpected; this was just going to be a cheap (the cheapest) replacement for the £350 HP Compaq CQ60 (awful product by the way) that died on us after only 18 months, however it's so much more than the cheap and dirty product I expected.
Very nice display - supports the full Windows 7 Aero (if you have a copy of home/home premium).
Good Synaptics-based touch pad - supports two-finger scroll/pinch.
Great size - fits perfectly on your lap. Very quiet. Very quick.
Very good battery life - 8 hours on the first use which included installing Windows 7.

One recommendation - if you are planning to install the full version of Windows 7 go online first and make a hard copy of all the drivers you will need (eMachines have a very user friendly driver support site with a tool for finding out which devices you have) because when you reinstall you lose the ability to use the wlan until you install the driver.

If you are looking for a cheap netbook that has most of the features of a netbook costing far more, this is a good choice.

Primary Software:
Windows 7 Starter Edition
Office 2010 Starter Edition - Word & Excel
Norton Trial - I have removed this and downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials(Free firewall and Virus checker)
Adobe Reader (PDF file reader)
Video web camera software.

Suggested downloads (all free)
Microsoft Windows Live Essentials
Microsoft Security Essentials (primarily for email access)
Skype (free video calls to other Skype users)

Suggested additions.
USB DVD drive (For using CD's/DVD's). This has no DVD drive.
USB Mouse (if you don't like Netbook touch pads, like me).
This product can be upgraded by an additional 1GB of RAM.
USB Internet dongle for mobile Internet.

Good for.

General Internet use.
Email
Skype
Basic Office functionality (Letters and Spreadsheets)
Basic Games

Not good for.

Advanced games requiring graphics processing.
Advanced Office functions.
Intense Video/Photo editing.

Apart from gamers and image editors, most peoples computing requirements are fairly limited to Internet usage, email and some basic office documents/spreadsheets. This machine is quite capable of handling these with ease. The hardware is small but with an adequate sized keyboard and the screen perfectly readable if you have reasonable eyesight. (Even if it is not you can use Windows 7 Ease of Use tools which include a screen magnifier and the Microsoft narrator program which reads to you.)

The netbook includes.
A webcam (perfectly adequate for video calls to friends and family)
Internal microphone.

I love this little gem. I bought it with some trepidation because I have read some (misguided) poor reviews. Within minutes of unpacking it was up & running & detected my home wifi. I bought a Windows 7 upgrade with it so, since it was working well on Win7 Starter, I upgraded. I didn't need to find any drivers from the web (as suggested by another reviewer) it was a seamless process though it took about an hour (while I had dinner). I then installed Office 2007. None of this was any problem &, although it is not as quick than my desktop PC, believe me, it is not at all slow. Please disregard the reviews that suggest it takes several minutes to start programs - utter nonsense. Clicking on a 26Mb Powerpoint presentation containing a lot of images started the program & loaded the file in 4seconds. I am submitting this review using the E350. The little keyboard is quite nice & "clicky" & the whole package has a nice feel. For real work (not games or other nonsense) & keeping in touch on the go this is a nice bit of kit. I have been using it all of today on battery power (just letting it "sleep" during periods of inactivity). It started off this morning showing over 8hrs battery life - it is now 2AM next day & is still telling me I have over 3hrs left before it will need a recharge. Much better than I expected so top marks from me.

What can I say, does exactly what it says on the tin. Low price but not low quality. Clear display, nice keyboard, loooong battery life, gives me the portability I was looking for, and network range is good too. This Windows version hasn't given me any problems so far.

Lightweight in both weight and processing power. I spent an extra £20 doubling the RAM to 2GB, makes some difference, but not a lot. Don't expect to be able to do any photo or video editing. And gaming will be restrictive. THAT SAID, fabulous value for money, if all you want is to check email, surf, MS Office basics, and general admin, this is for you. Worth the money, don't expect anything more though.

Had this machine a few weeks now and very happy with it. Feels very solid, sturdy hinges on the screen so I'm not expecting issues with build quality.

For the price it seems a bargain in comparison to other makes - loaded on firefox, avg virus check, all working fine. The battery seems to be lasting 4 hours, which is ok for what I need. Windows updates all went through fine.

I did also load on openoffice but have found that the microsoft word starter application included with the machine is more than enough for me and have since removed openoffice.

I was very surprised by the size of the power adaptor - I've been used to laptop power adaptors being a fair size and weight, but this one is small, built into the electrical plug itself, very portable.

I have removed some of the unnecessary software and no issues there.

The screen is very clear and all in all the whole package is better than I expected. It also feels solid, more so than many laptops I've seen and used previously.

I'd spent quite a while looking at other netbooks in stores, faster processors, etc and came to the conclusion that for internet, email and word processing this would meet my needs.

I thought I'd need some extra memory for video playback like BBC iplayer, there was a bit of picture lag, but have installed 2Gb of memory and there is no appreciable increase in speed and still getting picture lag on BBC iplayer - my advice would be not to waste money on upgrading the memory - seems like the processor is the issue, not memory.

Windows 7 starter does not allow the desktop background to be personalised, which seems to have been deliberately engineered by Microsoft to encourage users to upgrade to windows 7 home.
