Product Description

Product Description

The IU01 addresses an issue common to most gaming PCs that is a lack of substantial power and expandability from the front-panel USBs. The IU01 enhances control and boosts power for front-panel USB devices by connecting them directly to the power supply as opposed to the motherboard, ensuring that there is always enough power to control your accessories and peripherals. The IU01 also adds six internal USB ports that are great for powering items that you don't need constant access too like a Bluetooth module or USB wireless router allowing you to free up the external ports for additional accessories.

Box Contains

1 x NZXT IU01

Whilst my Asus X99 Deluxe came with 2x USB2 headers, the Coolermaster Stormtrooper case needs 2 and the Corsair power supply needs 1 - so I purchased this NZXT USB Expansion to see it it'll help. The board itself is quite compact (about 6 inches by 1 inch) and attaches to your case via "Velcro" on the back the board and a stick piece of "Velcro" on the case (all included). So you can get the position just right. You then connect the USB Expansion card to your power supply (it has a "mini 2pin" to 4 pin adapter - but you do need a 4 pin output from your power supply to connect to: so make sure you have a spare power output on existing cables or have a spare connector) and then it connects to your existing motherboard USB port (again, the cable is provided!). Plugging in my Cosair Link and front panel USB ports into this works perfectly - and it gives me one more internal USB port and 2 "external style" ports if I wanted to plug "flash drives" or similar into my case.

My only criticism is that it provides 2 "external" style connectors - I would much prefer it to have come with a total of 5 "internal" USB headers (after all, it is an internal card and DOES NOT use a PCI slot - so to unplug the USB devices, you need to open your case).

This is a great bit of kit, wish the power adaptor was abit longer is only 2 or 3 inchs long and was a sata connector not a molex, but all round a great bit of kit a must have for computer cases as it just makes a lot of issues alot simpler

I have just received Rev 1.1. This version catches fire and destroys motherboards by basically bridging a live power cable directly to the USB header. I will not be installing and amazon have initiated a replacement. If the next one that comes is not the Rev 2.0 then I will be returning for a refund. I'm shocked that amazon still, after all these years, stock and sell a known to be faulty and hazardous product. If you receive a Rev 1.1 do not install it. But if you must use it, never, ever connect up the power cable!!!

Update: Amazon have again sent me a Rev 1.1 board in a Rev 2.0 box. As you can see from the images I have uploaded, the box packaging has a 2015 copyright mark and an image of a single chip, Rev 2.0 board. But inside of both boxes I was sent was a dual chip Rev 1.1 board. Those two black chips on the Rev 1.1 are the ones that burn out and cause an unregulated power connection to be bridged directly to the USB header. Absolutely disgusted the amazon can sell a product that clearly shows the new, safe, updated product on the box which is sent in the latest packaging but with the original faulty product inside. I will be reporting this to trading standards.

most motherboards have 2 or more internal USB headers however my EVGA 750 motherboard has only has 1.
Each USB header powers 2 USB ports
my case has 4 front USB ports (2 internal USB headers required)so 2 of the USB ports could never work
this product has more than i need and is very easy to install it also has sticky backed Velcro so it can be placed onto a convenient space and removed later if necessary

I use this to house a microsoft wireless xbox one controller adapter inside my casing. I didn't have room at the rear and didn't want it to be unsightly at the front. The bonus benefit is it helped me with by providing extra options for connecting corsair PSU and CPU cooler usb cables for monitoring.

The card arrived very quickly and just plugs into a motherboard USB header and just works. No drivers necessary (windows 7).
Only gripe is that it does seem a bit on the expensive side for what it is and it is not USB3. But I knew this before I bought it so overall I'm very pleased with my purchase.
Oh, it also should be made clearer that it DOES include the jumper cable to connect the device to the motherboard header, and it is plenty long enough as well as being nicely braided in black.

I bought this for the reason everyone else bought it, more internal headers. It has a plug in power supply so the USB device you connect to it can forward the power supply to other peripherals. I used this to connect a 5.25" USB hub/card reader and it does the job splendidly, no complaints.

Bought this to expand the number of internal USB headers in my Hackintosh (Yosemite 10.10.5) as I only had two internal headers and needed three to connect my bluetooth module, USB2 card reader and front USB2 ports. This is basically an internal USB hub that provides internal USB expansion with USB 9-pin header connectors rather than the standard external A type connections, although it does have two of these as well.

This card was easy to install using the provided velcro tabs, I have attached mine to the side of the hard drive cage in my Fractal Design case so it is easy to access once the case is open.

The expansion card comes with a 9-pin USB header cable to connect to one of the motherboard USB headers, this then connects to the bottom 9-pin connector on the card. It also comes with a 4 pin power (pass-through) connector so any items connected have sufficient power.

This has worked without any issues, all the items connected are visible and work without any additional kexts or drivers required. I have not used the two 'external' A type USB ports but would expect these to work just as well.

I would definitely recommend this card for anyone looking for an easy way to expand the number of internal USB headers in their PC of Hack.
