I have this and the 4-cup Venus too.

But the 2 cup always seemed to brew a slightly harsher cup of espresso despite taking the same care when grinding my coffee just before the brew.

I finally sussed out why.
Because this is a smaller unit compared to the 4 cup (and others I'm sure), the coffee basket sits just that bit closer to the heat source.
So I cut the heat used by 50-60% and it's now making the smoothest, richest cups of Jo.

Ironically it's just as hot to drink a before and it takes pretty much the same amount of time to brew. The only difference (other than the massive improvement in taste) being that the final sputtering is now a much more timid affair.
I can also feel the oils more when cleaning the basket which I take as an indication that it's not scorching and stripping the coffee during the brew.

Just a simple tweak in the process that made a huge difference to the final result with the 2 cup.

5 Star....read on to find out why...

Ok, you may have seen mixed reviews for this product and I too saw those when deciding on purchasing this product. I was a little concerned by some comments about leaking sealed and quality build issues as it had been made in the far eastern countries however as I knew this brand well and having already got the larger version knew it was a pretty safe move to go for it as the large version was excellent quality in every way.

When it first arrived, we tried it out and sure enough, it worked ok but the seal was leaking like some customers have said. The seal felt very rough when tightening it and it just seemed nothing like its bigger brother which we already have and would expect better quality from Bialetti. I decided to return it and request a replacement because it should not leak and I knew the build quality should be higher. Also, coming from an Italian home, I expected better than this as we use these every day.

Amazon were as always very helpful and sent a replacement. This is where the amazement started. As soon as it arrived we noticed straightaway that the box itself was different. It looked more professional, photos on the box were in colour etc. where as I remember the old one having more blander artwork and photos in differnet tones of blue. We opened the box up and even the instructions looked better. As for the Espresso maker, it was a different item altogether. The seal itself was silicon not cheap rubber like the first one we received and when tightening the espresso maker, it was super smooth and did not leak one bit. The inside of the espresso maker had a superior finish/coating and the overall finish of the espresso maker was more polished.

So this straight away raised some questions.

I purchased this item because I had owned this type of coffee maker when I used to camp years ago. I always enjoyed the wonderful taste of the coffee it produced. We now have an induction hob at home and gas in the caravan where I spend a lot of time and wanted the opportunity to make good espresso coffee in both locations and I have now found the wonderful answer to producing excellent results everytime whether at home after a dinner party or travelling Europe in the caravan. It is easy to use, clean and store. The only negative is you have to be careful on gas not to have a high flame as this will discolour the base.

I have had Bialetti coffee pots for years and they are excellent. This new stainless steel version is far superior. It is easier to clean and nicer to use. It also seems to hold more than my previous 4 cup pot, and realistically fills a good mug for one. I read all the reviews before renewing my old pot and it still made me choose Bialetti and now they make it in stainless steel it does not get the residue in the bottom that the old ones did. Excellent purchase and would definitely recommend it. And it works fantastically on my cast iron range cooker hob.

The Bialetti stainless steel espresso stove top coffee makers are excellent quality - I also own a 4 cup in Australia. I would never use an aluminium one because I've seen how the internal stems gradually dissolve over time...into your coffee! I purchased this larger one for an extended stay with family in the UK. I was worried about this being able to work on an ordinary electric stove top as I have gas in Australia, but have discovered that it works fine. I've been using stove top coffee makers for years and have developed a 'method' for the coffee we like (I make strong coffee to which I add hot milk latte style). Bialetti advises putting the coffee in the funnel without pressing it down (tamping) but I have found that if you want a strong, rich brew tamping the coffee lightly helps. Use coffee that is roasted and ground specifically for espresso making (or if grinding yourself, do not grind too fine). Using boiling water from the kettle instead of cold improves flavour. Be careful though as the pot gets very hot - use a cloth or oven glove to screw the top back on to the boiler. Brew on a medium low heat and do not 'over brew' as the coffee will burn and taste bitter: remove from heat when you hear the 'gurgling' sound. Another thing to remember is to prime your new expresso maker by brewing coffee in it several times and discarding. In any case, flavour improves with use! For our type of coffee I have found that the 6 cup size will make about 3-4 mugs latte style whereas the 4 cup makes about 2-3.
