I bought this Decca/Pascal Rogé CD many years ago and there was a tiny glitch on one part of the CD....really annoying (I should have returned the disk) and after many years of playing the general quality of the CD deteriorated to the point where it was unplayable. So I was a little nervous of re-ordering this Decca recording many years later. That said, Pascal Rogé is highly regarded in his interpretation of Satie and for me this recording is the definitive interpretation. There are however, and there were on the recording I bought many years ago, some strange deep rumblings on the recording. The sound is often not clean because of this, again it's annoying but not to the point where I'd send the CD back. It's possible the rumbling might be deep harmonics from the piano! So, I love the playing....but I have reservations about the quality of the original recording.....and hopefully this edition has also been made to last!

I agree with other listers i bought this on ebay and this version has very audible clicking sounds apparent when listened to.

I am a fan of Pascal Roge, I have CD's of him playing Debussy and Ravel and they are brilliant. However when it comes to Eric Satie I personally prefer the 1968 recording by Frank Glazer (available as a US import on VoxBox). Roge seems to try a bit too hard in the Gymnopedies to infuse the music with feeling whereas Glazer plays it in a less mannered and more straightforward way which lets the music's subtle haunting beauty come out in a more natural way.

Having listened to many different interpretations of this, I really do believe that this version by Pascall Roge is the best. Others are too slow or wooden and drag the pieces down, this keeps the humour and mystery. I really can't fault the recording - definately the one to get. The delivery was quick and the item was exactly as described.

This is a particularly sensitive interpretation of Satie's work, slightly slower and somehow more thoughtful than other recordings I have heard.

This is a marvellous disc and. In my case it heads the list with the controversial De Leeuw performances which are very much more spaciously conceived. I enjoy and would not want to be without either disc for the totally different perspectives they throw on these extraordinary piano works.

Pascal Rogé is the uncrowned king of Satie, no doubt about it. The CD features solid and beautiful playing all the way through, and Rogé really manages to catch the mood of the different pieces, i.e. the mysterious nature of the first Gnosienne. The sound is great all the way through; I have only found a bit of noise in one track. If you're looking for some Satie, this is the one to get.

A really expressive recording of Satie by Pascal Roge from Decca. Ideal for those of us who are new to Satie and recordings of his piano works, I would recommend this version to anyone interested in Satie and the emotional communication of which his piano works are capable, and a bargain at this price.
