Product description

Product Description

A good Christmas compilation should contain the following things--a selection of old classics to warm your cockles by the fireside, some of the classic pop titles that people always seem to find themselves singing along to in the pub on Christmas Eve and some Carols. The Best Christmas Album in the World Ever manages to fulfil all these criteria--on the classic front there is Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" and Dean Martin's "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow", on the classic pop front there's Slade's "Merry Christmas Everybody" and Wizzard's "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday", traditional carols "Silent Night" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" head the field. All in all, The Best Christmas Album In The World Ever manages to live up to its name.--Helen Marquis

44 songs for thirteen quid? A "who's who" of Christmas classics going back into out collective memory? Fine, one or two may require judicious use of the skip forward button, but I defy anyone not to start singing along if you put this on at a Christmas party. There's no need to comment on the songs - I bet you know at least thirty of them by heart.
Just as with "Guilty Pleasures", old back catalogues may mean that the album does not cost much for the music company to pull together, but, in the right circumstances, it is well worth their effort. A great idea and a great present too!!!

This is a pretty decent stab at a Xmas party album but suffers from the usual faults ie Because the record company behind it can't obtain permission to use all the tracks they might want, you end up with this compromise. Unfortunately in this instance they've made matters worse by substituting inferior versions of some tracks for the real thing(surely no one actually believes "Fairytale of Newyork" is enhanced by Ronan Keating's contributions).

There is a fairly simple solution:Buy this album AND "Chritmas Hits"(a three CD set that can be got pretty cheaply), although there is quite a bit of over-lap, the two discs together should provide all the material you need to put together a tailor-made great xmas party album.

Don't get me wrong, the C.D is reasonable, it has all the classics you would expect. But there are so many re-makes, such as the Ronan Keating version of 'Fairytale in New York', which are just not as good as the originals. You will find all the Christmas songs you can think of on here, and I'm not going to patronise you by saying how good (or generally the opposite) they are, as you know them inside out. Just brace for disappointment if you're especting the original versions.

I've looked at many albums that offer a range of different christmas songs, but the ones I have seen have never combined my favourite songs on one album. I finally came across "The Best Christmas Album in The World...Ever!" and it truly is. It offers a fantastic variety of songs. The classics like "I Wish It Could be Christmas" by Wizzard, "Merry Xmas Everybody" by Slade and "Do they know its Christmas" by Band Aid, to the oldies Chris De Burgh, Cliff Richard and Elton John. It's truly brilliant. It has every popular christmas song that you could think of and its great for people of all ages!

Despite the 'lavish' plaudits of the title this 2 disc comp lacks just about everything for 'good listening' music enjoyment. True enough there's nothing wrong with the titles (mostly)....but the sound. Someone in the A&R dept of virgin have given a new trainee a rush Xmas job to finish...and it shows. Just because a track is 20 years (or more) older doesn't mean they have to sound like they did through 'trannies' of the time. This album may have the right track mix to outwardly appeal, but once in the CD tray it really doesn't lift musical spirits too much more than a few degrees over zero. This christmas cracker is a 'dud' I'm afraid and probably the only thing to do is (like me) return it. Sorry Amazon not your fault...its those Virgin men....again!

The title suggests that this is truly the best Christmas album ever, but where's Wham, Shakin Stevens and Chris Rea? And why is Samantha Mumba covering the Mariah classic. Then there's fairytale of new york; a truly fantastic song so why is it sung here by Ronan Keating?! The album does have a number of great songs on, with many classics such as Slade, Wizzard and John Lennon, but i don't think it can be called the 'best Christmas album' as it has missed out so many great songs.

The title of this Album "The Best Christmas Album In The World ... Ever!" is perhaps a little misleading as it was clearly made for European/USA release and doesn't take into account the many other worldwide musical styles and differences. A small point maybe but one I thought I'd share with you - now onto the content. It has most of the perenial favourites, Slade,Wood, Lennon, McCartney, etc. and does indeed try to capture several decades of 'Christmas Spirit'. There is almost certainly something for everyone here. It is undoubtedly a great CD to "just put on and let it roll" during the festive period. It is well recorded and comes with simple yet effective insert notes, so represented great value for money. I bought this to replace my rather worn out copy of the record(s) and for the convenience of having all these tracks so readily available in compact format. Good for DJs and general collectors, this represents really good value for money.

Don't buy it. What a load of twoddle. Thought it would be good but it isn't. Alot of the songs aren't by the artists that released them or they have rehashed the songs and hash is what you end up with.
