Bought this for my Canon EOS 1100D as it does not have a remote sensor. Works perfect straight out of the box. No instructions, but it is fairly simple, just plug it into the hot shoe, or leave it hanging at the side if you want to use the flash. Don't really know what the button on the main unit does, it seems to be an auto focus I think, but when you press on the remote it does the focus for you anyway.
Great range on the remote. Looking forward to using it on a tripod in the garden with the bird feeders, can get a close up shot without disturbing them. Would definitely recommend this product.

I bought this for my Canon G12 after reading the reviews. The item arrived ahead of schedule and was well packaged. The first problem was no instructions, but hey, it can't be that dificult. I inserted the supplied battery in the receiver and slotted it into the hot shoe and pluged the lead into the camera and swiched both on. Second problem, the remote was dead, no little green light which ever switch/button I pressed. Was not happy and was about to send the lot back. Then I had a thouht, the button on the remote sits proud, so I wondered if the tight packaging had been pressing on it and run the battery flat. I undid the four screws on the back and lifted out the PCB, on the back was a button battery. It was a CR2032, and as luck would have it I had a spare, put it all back together and low and behold every thing worked. The reason I have given it only 3 stars is because of the lack of any instructions and the problem I had with the remote. If it had worked out of the box it would have had 5.

its a great piece of equipment, even tho i struggled in setting the thing up. there are no instructions so i will give a few tips. the receiver has a button to take pictures and it also works without a battery, half way to focus and all the way to shoot. there are 4 switches behind both receiver and remote. these are used to set the channel and they must be switched in the same way in order to use the shutter. the receiver must have a flashing red light, meaning that its on. there is a switch for the reveiver, so dont forget to turn it on. if ur receiver still doent work even with the battery in and switched on, try taking the battery out and putting it back again or try rolling the battery in the reveiver.in my case,i didnt put the battery in correctly and the whole receiver started to warm up. the remote will ligh up if you press the button, if not, as others already have stated, its probably because the battery has died, as there is no off button for the remote.

This little remote looks nice and seems to work really nicely (on my canon 50D) and from a good distance (can't say how far as yet). The only problem i can see is that the bulb function doesn't work as advertised. There's no way of locking the button down to keep the shutter open other than holding the button down with your finger.
It does say "Press and slide it to lock the shutter for Bulb Mode photography" in the description but there is no way of doing this, unless someone can tell me different! i guess I'll just have to put some tape over it for exposures over 30secs!
other than that its a great peice of kit for the price!

This is a wonderful remote so strong a signal, that when taken group pictures and wanting to stand in to the picture you can keep the remote away back from the camera and still work perfect.

Having bought a Canon 1000D which doesn't have an infra-red remote receiver, this piece of kit is essential for shooting. It works well and does what it says. I havent tested out the full range, but as I will mostly use it on a tripod for macro shots I don't need to be far away. The instructions on the packaging are a little "Engrish" but it is all straight forward.

The one downside I can see with this (hence the deduction of a star) is that while the receiver has a power button, the transmitter does not. Seeing as this button is large and only requires a little pressure to half press it, it could drain the power if it gets crushed in a bag or pocket. There is also no obvious battery compartment on the transmitter, so it may mean unscrewing the back to replace it, which is not the greatest product planning.

It is also a shame that it doesn't have a clip or bracket to attach it to the camera as it just dangles by the side, I guess you could tape it to your camera if you are so inclined. Overall though, it is cheap and an important piece of kit so I would still recommend any 1000D user to get one!

I use this on my both my Canon 350D and 500D SLRs and it is excellent.
I bought it from BV Electronics on Amazon and it arrived the next day via Royal Mail.

There is only one downside and that is I lost the handheld transmitter out of my jeans back pocket on a shoot....... still, I bought a second one and ditto great service from [...] and at 16 odd quid it didn't break the bank.

UPDATE
The 2nd unit I purchased stopped working. The battery is fine so it must be the unit. The 1st one I bought did work fine until I lost it. So, build quality may be a bit patchy! I have now ordered a Hama unit via Amazon.
