The times I accidentally press the movie button whilst trying to compose a shot is extremely frustrating. I find my memory full in no time with accidental movie takes. The button should either be repositioned or not so easy to press instantly.
Paid £12 to get an expert find out what was wrong with and turns out the motherboard needed replacing, at a cost which was not worth saving the camera for.
Extremely disappointed that a £200 broke seemingly for no reason after just a year and a half and would not recommend anyone wasting their money as i have done.
I searched around for a long time before buying the Sony. I was wanting something that had big zoom, manual mode, manual focus and at least 15secs for long exposures. I also wanted a hot shoe for flash triggers, this wouldn't be a deal breaker, but it has all of my boxes ticked. I would of preferred a viewfinder but it's not the end of the world.
So far I'm getting around 700-800 shots per charge which is a lot more than Sony have said, but I've got a Sony DSLR and I can get 900 out of that when Sony say 600 so the battery life is very good.
This camera has so much tech in, some of it I won't use, but it's got something for everyone I would say.
One other thing that I've been very impressed with is the 60x digital zoom, I've had other cameras where they are unusable when it goes digital, I've attached a moon shot at 60x and also a long exposure shot, I think it was 8secs.
After saying all the great things like every camera the HX60 does have some flaws and that although the camera looks very beautiful to me, it does have some build issues. I'm not sure whether it's just this camera I have but the battery/SD card door doesn't shut flush as good as it should and although this doesn't cause any issues of it working properly. The other is that the lens has a bit of rattle esp at telephoto.
All in all though thus far a great product that won't break the bank.
I cannot disagree with all the reviews on the quality of images, ease of use and auto focus (given the major zoom element of this camera) as I did my tour but there was one flaw which drove me crazy and hence the three star rating. This is in bright sunlight which is pretty common in S E Asia (I was in Laos and Cambodia but believe same issue would apply all over the region) if the sun was in the wrong place and behind you when you came to shoot, you could not see anything in the back of camera viewer! All you could do was aim the camera and hope for the best (and then review the results afterwards which were often not very good!).
Trying to shield or cover the viewer simply meant you saw your hand reflection or blackness! I discussed the problem with others on the tour (who were all more serious photographers with expensive DSLRs and Go-Pros etc.) and nobody had any immediate fixes. When I got back to the UK I went to a local and very helpful camera shop who advised that buying a screen cover or hood was likely to be of very limited benefit - the issue was that unless such rear screen viewers are on a hinge and so movable to address the reflection problem, there is very little you can do!!
Key lesson learned and while I still rate the camera for its overall compactness and quality of images captured plus its battery life and robust build seems very good from my trip, I cannot recommend it if you are going to use in very sunny climates for the reasons stated!
