The review I read of this new single from Hurts claimed that 'if you like this you'll like...Pet Shop Boys' and I have to agree that the soaring string-led chorus and beefed-up electronica of the lead track are somewhat reminiscent of Tennant and Lowe's style. The song is very anthemic and sticks in your head, however the second song 'Affair' is an altogether stodgier and more generic, well, affair really. Overall though I think that these guys have the potential to become the real deal over the next year or so and I'll definitely be buying their album.

I stumbled across this on holiday in Portugal. As soon as I got home I bought it off Amazon & haven't stopped listening to it since.

I don't really like any of their other songs but this is utterly sublime. Superb, melodic, haunting pop at its very best. I can't say enough about it.

"Wonderful Life", Hurts' official second single, really comes as no surprise. This is the track that months ago made everyone take notice of the Mancunian duo, so it seems more of an overdue release. They offer a new version of it, though, and in this incarnation the song sounds less 80s than expected. It sports round, funky beats painstakingly programmed, Theo's cutting, elegant tones, flittering saxes and synth walls that envelop you in a tense, deeply affecting atmosphere. We honestly think that it could do for Hurts what "West End Girls" did for the Pet Shop Boys so many years ago. And it is already a hit in Germany.

The b-side, "Affair", is Hurts at their most un-Hurts. A six-minute plus breakup song, it sounds like a blind date between a Prince ballad and "I Know It's Over" by The Smiths, all filtered through an electro-blues approach. Contrived and fascinating at the same time, it is a song that we have not been able to understand properly yet. We will probably manage it when the dust around their debut album finally settles.

If you too find "Affair" bizarre, you should try the German edition of this single, as it contains the Arthur Baker remix of "Wonderful Life". A truly stunning version, it takes the track into a techno-rave heaven without losing any of its original, enticing features, vocals included. It is definitely one of the best productions by the former New Order collaborator, and one that will work wonders for Hurts in discos all over the world...

That Severn bridge can certainly wait.

A wonderful song and I really appreciate the good delivery. I was just a little unhappy at the cost price as I bought it early but the single was more than it was being sold at a later date on other sites. However, I am really happy with the single!
