The new album of raging metal from the Norwegian godfathers fusing the best of classic heavy, thrash & black metal to perfection. Presented in special mediabook format. Darkthrone began life in the late 80's as a thrash/death metal act and progressed through technical death/doom metal experimentation to become legends of the black metal world. They were one of the original leading bands of the Norwegian scene, as well as inspiring a whole generation of metal bands. 'The Underground Resistance' is Darkthrone's latest venture through the metal cosmos, and first new album since their 2010 'Circle The Wagons' opus. A continuation of the free-spirited metallic lands the duo of Fenriz & Nocturno Culto have been roaming for a long time, 'The Underground Resistance' contains Darkthrone's trademark masterful riffing in a broad range of styles, effortlessly bounding through the annals of classic metal, taking in thrash and black metal, and not forgetting a dose of Punk. All things considered, a ferocious and dynamic set of tracks drenched in Fenriz's & Nocturno's rich and diverse tastes in all things metal, primarily those rooted firmly in the spirit of the 80's. 6 tracks long, and every one an epic in itself, this is undoubtedly Darkthrone's strongest outing of late. 'The Underground Resistance' was written and recorded spring 2010 to summer 2012 at Necrohell 2 studios by the band themselves. The album was mastered by Jack Control at Enormous Door, Texas USA. Cover artwork also comes courtesy of the iconic and celebrated artist Jim Fitzpatrick.

This isn't all growly stuff like some of their earlier albums. A lot of the songs have an old school 1980's metal feel about them with Fenris belting out melodic, operatic high note vocals. It's a great mix with Ted growling through his vocal parts, and this contrast in vocal styles makes each track stand out as an individual arrangement. All complimented of course by banging drums and glorious riff after riff, which is what I've come to expect from Darkthrone over the years. I'll leave the more technical reviews to more knowledgeable people, and I won't pretend to be something that I'm not. All I can do is review it from my own knowledge base, and what I can say in conclusion is that this album is not the same old same old from Darkthrone. It's still heavy, it's still full of head banging riffs, but it's also old fashioned, in a good way and as I plan on spending the rest of my day listening to the album I conclude that this is a good thing, a very good thing indeed.
the last track is 13 mins long and still not long enough.
some excellent musicianship and wonderful vocals. if you like heavy metal this is an album worth getting.
its not the blackest of black metal albums, but don't let that put you off.
if there had been a couple more tracks of the same quality this would have got 5 stars.

Top relasevfrom Darkthrone. More trashy than BM but totally did the job for me. If not careful you will find yourself singing along to this one.Published 23 months ago by Dr Audio
The duo of Fenriz and Nocturno Culto return for another batch of crusty old metal and punk, though the focus is much more on metal for this Darkthrone outing. Read morePublished on 29 Jun. 2014 by Grumpyrocker
