Belgian legend Soulwax's mash up album is certainly an interesting listen. As with all mash-ups you have to expect some duds within the mix, expecting a perfect album of tracks is pretty unreasonable considering the experimental nature of the mixes. However, Soulwax has managed for the most part to marry songs with success.

The album certainly is a novelty, but does not seem boring with further listening, simply because the songs used are so engrained in any music lover's memory. I would certainly buy the CD, the Kraftwerk/Soviet inspired artwork is inspired, with the bagged heads of Kraftwerk heading the outer cover. Inside the bagged heads of the Beatles' Sgt Pepper's cover is superb and will not fail to surprise.

I love the character of this album. It's unconventional, flamboyant and cheeky. It's also quite rare, hence the holding of it's value since it's 2008 release. Just remember that this is a bootleg, taken from low quality MP3's. Don't be expected to be wowed by the sound quality, but I can safely assure you will be impressed by the eclectic mixture of artists married together in ways you'd doubt were possible.

If you can get it for under a tenner, I certainly would recommend.

Who would have thought you could mix Iggy and The Stooges with Salt N' Pepper, Destiny's Child with Nirvana or Basement Jaxx and The Clash. Apparantly you can. There's all sorts creeping into this album. The Beastie Boys, EMF, INXS, Michael Jackson, The Prodigy, Beck, ACDC. Brilliant.
