Another amazing album from the unique talent of Tigran Hamasyan. Once again he is accompanied by a superb band of musicians who bring to life his mesmerizing music. A five-star rating doesn't do it justice!!

Typical Tigran genius, but becomes very same-ey after awhile.

First caught this musician on the radio and was hooked. This album especially is smooth mix of jazz influenced by Azerbijani music. Very clever. Bought more of his stuff which is more mainstream jazz, and still good.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing Achievement 4 April 2015
By Brian Whistler - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
Tigran is not interested in being the jazz piano prodigy he once appeared to be, as evidence by some of his more recent work. But this, this takes it to another level. He mixes progressive rock, electronica, Armenian folk music, heavy metal, pop, jazz and God knows what else into a heady stew that sounds at times like King Crimson, Frank Zappa, Hovaness, Bartok or even Bjork but really, it's not like anything I've heard before. The production style is more pop than jazz, relying on all the technology in today's studio. The result is totally unique, an album like no other, best heard over a great system or better yet, with headphones.

I can't emphasize how wonderful this recording is. It's a kaleidoscopic look into the mind of one of the freshest talents to come along in a long while. I can't recommend it highly enough. It is a trip, one well worth taking.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing as expected, but... 31 Jan. 2014

Top notch compositions and performances, all harmonically and rhythmically challenging. Unlike Red Hail (the only other Tigran release I own) this is extremely vocal-centric. I cannot deny the talent and will continue to listen, but as a musician (not a singer) I am slightly disappointed. I am posting this in case anyone might be of the same (narrow) mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars BRILLIANT, TRANSCENDENT-- A TRUE FUSION! 18 April 2014
By Socotronic - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Tigran Hamasyan is a young pianist of astounding ability. I had heard some of his earlier work and I found it impressive but not to my taste. Too virtuosic, for me.
But on this CD he has achieved something that many others have attempted but rarely managed: a real meeting of cultures, rife with ideas and conceptual vitality, but not weighed down by its origins.
I will not single out individual tracks, because the album is best heard as a whole. It is nearly symphonic in its aspirations, and pretty much succeeds. It is exquisitely melodic, rhythmically and harmonically vibrant and challenging, and above all, soulful.
There are occasional displays of Hamasyan's jaw-dropping virtutosity, but they are meted out sparingly and thus carry more weight when they do appear.
Vocals feature prominently through the CD, giving it a quasi folkloric quality. Sometimes I am reminded of the way Pat Metheny
has deployed the human voice in his music, but it goes in some other directions here.
For those who value creative courage and true cultural mashups, BUY THIS.
