Having heard the amazing early release tracks: 'Care', 'Stain On The Sun' and 'Water' I was very excited to hear the rest. I slapped it straight onto the turntable upon delivery and it doesn't disappoint. Continuing with the same combination of crunching riffs and melodic soulfulness that you'd expect from its members (King's X, Dream Theater & Winger) this is a real treat that will probably be overlooked by the majority - leaving us, in the know, to enjoy and revel in genius at work.

Here we have the new album from 'supergroup' rock band featuring Ty Tabor of KINGS'X on guitar and vocals, bass player John Myung of Dream Theater and Rod Morgenstein on drums. This is their fourth album, and came fairly quickly after the last one. Like that last album, the group sound has become and stayed more sharp and focused, polished that the band initially may have been. The retain their developed sound- almost light rock music, melodic with progressive rock elements. It taken me a good few plays to get more into this album. At first I thought that it was lacking, maybe not as good as the last one, which really seemed to see that become a 'real' serious band and not simply an on/off side project. The sounds and style had really moved ahead a good few steps tighter. It does stay that way here, but the atmosphere is spread out wider across the album. It has a positive, continued social awareness in the lyrics which is different and interesting. Good album for rock fans who like just a little bit of prog rock. For fans of KINGS'X, King Crimson, Dream Theater, Pink Floyd, The Beatles and more.

Album number one was a killer. Number two a BIG let down. And now this one, number three: a monster album, still better than number one in my view. Songs are catchy, arrangements top notch as expected from this stellar line up. I really loved this at once and it still grows on me. I guess you know about this band if you are reading this, so no time to waste: get it asap.

5.0 out of 5 stars A supergroup that really is a super group, Perfection. 28 May 2016

A concise and powerful musically statement that strikes the perfect blend of complexity and accessibility. Great songs and great playing. Ty, John and Rod are at the top of there game on this without going overboard. Such a sweet mix, every note is crystal clear. Sometimes when you get a supergroup thing, there are to many notes and overplay happens, this is an example of how to use space and silence to allow the music to breathe. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A little darkness 7 Jun. 2016

Well, this album kinda surprised me a bit. I'm a huge fan of Ty Tabor because of his minor/diminished sound coupled with his unique voice. That being said, Profit has these qualities but also adds a little more darkness. However, not all of the songs sound dark and his signature sound is still intact. Jelly Jam fans will also appreciate this album as it sounds better than all previous albums...in my opinion. Honestly Dream Theater fans might even like this as you can definitely hear that influence in certain tracks. In conclusion, Myung plays excellent which is to be expected and Morgenstein does not disappoint with his percussion skills. In short, if you like Ty Tabor, Jelly Jam, Dream Theater and the type of sound I mentioned previously, you'll definitely like Profit by Jelly Jam.
4.0 out of 5 stars The Prophet vs. the Profiteers 15 Jun. 2016

The more I listen to this release the more enjoyable it gets. As other reviewers have mentioned it has a darker feel compared to their previous records but that should not deter anyone. What has not changed is the superb songwriting and playing by these guys. Ty’s lyrics and vocals are superb, the production is excellent, the mix sounds thick and heavy but still has dynamic range, and the rhythm section is extremely tight. With the amazing talent this band has it would be easy for them to write a prog-shred-fest, but what I admire about this release is that they take a detour from that and give the listener a concept album of catchy melodic rock. Standouts so far include “Care”, “Stain on the Sun”, “Ghost Town” and “Heaven”, but this could change at any time because all the tunes are so good. So if you’re a fan of The Jelly Jam or looking for something different this is worth checking out.
5.0 out of 5 stars This is a real solid album. 28 Jun. 2016

I'll be honest - I'm a bit biased. I think Allison/Drop-The-Gun is some of their finest. That said, this album doesn't disappoint. In all cases with King's X, the fans are the most critical. Take it as a glowing endorsement that this fan loves Profit. While I won't launch into an exhaustive review of each song, I'll summarize by saying that this is some of their most musically advanced work to date. They've really created something great here.
While each Jelly Jam album has some great moments, this one feels the most solid album as a whole.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great musicians meet and put together another super solid jam album! Enjoy! 21 July 2016

Quality music, some unmemorable tracks but all good musicianship obviously. Love Dream Theater, so I'm glad to see their bassist, JOhn Myung, taking part in some side projects with other great musicians. Overall I'd give this 7.5/10 for music, the production is very nice too and sounds flat and well balanced, like I like on a great sound system. Decent dynamic range also for a CD.
