Part of the Playlist series, this compilation offers an enjoyable journey through Diana Ross's extensive career and flows together well (aside from the duet with Julio Iglesias which seems a bit out of place).

No single-disc collection is ever going to cover everything Ms Ross has released over the many decades she has been around. For the casual consumer, this CD will be perfectly sufficient. For the devoted fan, there will be issues with what has, and hasn't, been included. From that second standpoint, I would like to have seen at least one rare 12" version on here to make it a 'must have' for the fans as well. Still to be released on CD are the 12" versions of Work That Body, Muscles, Chain Reaction and Pieces of Ice, among others. The 12" of Swept Away was included on a German compilation but has still not been on a Diana Ross compilation or reissue yet. I think that adding the 12" of Muscles (which does seem like it needs to be longer when played on this disc) and/or the 12" of Chain Reaction (a massive UK smash hit, which also feels like it needs to be longer when heard on this disc) would have been the best choice(s) for lifting this release beyond good into something special. The total running time of 67 minutes 11 seconds does mean there was space for a couple of longer mixes.

However what we do get works well as a compilation, especially at this low price. Sound quality is generally very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent budget collection of full-length album versions! 20 Jun. 2013

I bought this CD to supplement my original issue of the "All The Great Hits" CD which covers Diana's solo Motown years fairly well but unfortunately conatins the heavily edited single version of "Love Hangover" (the current import reissue has the full-length version) This collection only includes 3 duplicates from that CD, and I was very happy to see that "Love Hangover" is restored to its original 7:48 length here. All of the tracks are full-length and the remaining 11 tracks are a nice representation of her work for RCA during the 80s. Sound quality is very nice, not overly loud although there is volume compression because all of the waveforms are uniform height, obviously cut down from louder masters. For the price though, it's a great collection. The booklet includes a short essay and 3 big full color photos along with track information. Mine came housed in a proper jewel case, unlike some previous 'Playlist' titles I have where they came in ridiculous flimsy cardboard packaging.

5.0 out of 5 stars 3 words: Fab! U! Lous! 29 Mar. 2016

Diana Ross was a constant hitmaker on pop radio for 20+ years. This is an impressive statistic, and it puts her in the big leagues of female vocalists. I bought this collection because my cassette of "Eaten Alive" went bad, which meant that I no longer had a copy of "Chain Reaction", and I just couldn't live with that. As usually happens when I buy "best of" sets, I love this one much more than I expected to. Many tracks I was very familiar with, but some I hardly remembered at all, so they seem new. That was one big plus to getting the collection. And another plus was hearing Diana sailing smoothly through the genres of 70's and 80's pop: the classic disco of "Love Hangover"; the exuberant post-disco pop of "Upside Down", "I'm Coming Out" and "Why Do Fools Fall In Love"; the 80's pop/rock of "Mirror Mirror", "Work That Body", "Pieces Of Ice", "Swept Away" and "Eaten Alive", most of these featuring searing rock guitar licks; and the polished adult contemporary sound of "All Of You", "Missing You" and "Chain Reaction".

There are a couple of departures from the norm, well worth mentioning. This version of "Love Hangover" is the longest (7:47) and most complete that I have heard. Also, "Endless Love" is sung solo by Diana, but the arrangement is practically identical to that of the duet with Lionel Richie. It lacks the dramatic tension that a duet provides, but Diana's emotional vocal is beautiful and moving nonetheless. And in its place we are given another duet, "All Of You", with Julio Iglesias. I will also say that I could have done without "Muscles", which I don't like, and I wish they had substituted "It's My Turn", which I like very much. But that is a minor issue. All in all, the selections are good, the sound of the CD is excellent, and, to use a cliché, it just rocks!
