Product description

Product Description

2014 two CD release from the five-time Grammy nominee. Rhonda Vincent, the New Queen of Bluegrass as deemed by the Wall Street Journal, is clearing the lane for this double disc release that includes six-songs each of Bluegrass and Country. The project, appropriately titled Only Me, serves as a reminder why Rhonda Vincent & The Rage is the most awarded band in Bluegrass music. Sticking with her musical roots, Rhonda is joined by Daryle Singletary on 'We Must Have Been Out of Our Minds', while Willie Nelson adds vocals and a guitar solo to the title track.

Great voice. Would have all fitted on a single cd though.

Excellent! Not sure that the two CDs release of 6 tracks each was particularly necessary, one each of country and bluegrass, but it's difficult to fault the music. To be honest the split of the two genres of music doesn't make a lot of difference to my ears, it's Rhonda's crystal clear vocals that carry the project.

There's a lot to enjoy - the title track is a cover of the Billy Yates song "Me Marie" with the title and chorus changed tweaked to accommodate the female view point, and as well as featuring Willie Nelson on vocals, he also contributes a great solo as part of a very tasteful instrumental section. I also enjoyed the brace of Bill Anderson songs on the 'country' disc: "Once A Day", best known for Connie Smith's version, is a great song and deserves to be re-aired here, and "Bright Lights, Country Music" always sounds good to me! The album closes off with a superb take on the classic "Drivin' Nails (in my coffin)".

The playing throughout is superb. Rhonda's band The Rage are heavily featured and I think the featured steel guitar player is Mike Johnson, maybe not a well known name but google him and you'll be amazed at his list of credits!

Great collection!

This didn't need to be a double CD as there are only six tracks each side and they would have all fitted comfortably on a single CD. Still, if you have a marked preference for either country or bluegrass, it is easy to play one CD and ignore the other - a bit like the old vinyl days - but for the rest of us, it is a nuisance having to change the CD after playing six tracks.

The nuisance value is worth it for Rhonda, who has delivered great music over many years, whether it be bluegrass, country or a blend of each. The title track is a duet with Willie Nelson, while Daryle Singletary joins Rhonda for a duet on We must have been out of our minds, which was originally a huge country hit for George Jones and Melba Montgomery.

Once a day (originally a #1 country hit for Connie Smith) and Beneath still waters (which Rhonda may have learned from Emmylou's album Blue Kentucky Girl, though her version was also a cover, the original being recorded by Diana Trask) are among the highlights on the second CD.

Rhonda has never disappointed me yet and didn't do so here either. Excellent.

I don't know where to put this exactly the music though is wonderful and as trad as it comes restored my faith that ral country does still exists. Rhonda uses her own label and has the freedom to do what she wants. I love the steel playing of Mike Johnson .favorite track has to be we must have been out of our minds

I ordered this CD before I'd read any revues as I am a fan of everything I've heard from Rhonda Vincent. I was a little bemused to find that in fact it was a double CD with 6 tracks on each. One CD was dedicated to Bluegrass and the other to more mainstream Country. I'm still trying to decide whether that was a good idea, only play the genre you like, or a bad one, have to change the CD in the player half way through. Nevertheless this one is strongly recommended.
