Only found out about this new album release when on holiday in Miami, where Gloria was interviewed in a local magazine. On return, I ordered it but was surprised it was practically only on import!! Why hasn't this release got more coverage? It's a great return to form, with a little help from Pharell, but still sounding very much like Gloria. Some retro sounds mixed with very modern production, blending with traditional latin musicianship to make a very modern miami-cuban sound. Welcome back Gloria!

This cd arrived quick and well wrapped, i took a chance buying an open package and it did not disappoint. The cd was not scratched or damaged in anyway, this is my first Gloria Estefan cd, and i can't stop dancing, even when i'm driving. The "wepa" track is crazy, and the percussions are incredible.

.....HOW FAB IS THIS ! JUST LOVE GLORIA ESTEFAN AND IT IS NICE TO LISTEN TO NEW MUSIC FROM HER, RATHER THAN LISTENING TO THE SAME CD'S THAT I HAVE. LOVE WEPA, LITTLE MISS HAVANA FROM MY FIRST LISTEN, ALTHOUGH IT SOUNDS LIKE I WILL BE KEEPING THIS CD ON REPEAT FOR SOME TIME TO COME - WITH MUCH PLEASURE AND FEEL GOOD FACTOR.

One of the first things that struck me about "Miss Little Havana" was the overwhelming sense of Gloria Estefan having tons of fun. In complete contrast to "Unwrapped", her last, predominantly ballad driven, English language album, which played like an introspective memoirs of her life, "Miss Little Havana" exerts Gloria's ability to show off her fun, extroverted side.
The playfully, flirtatious lyrics seamlessly merge with uplifting, catchy melodies that seem to revisit her days with Miami Sound Machine. Add this to Producer, Pharrell Williams', contemporary urban awareness and a very unique sound has evolved that's distinctive but still familiar enough to please any dance music/pop purist. This is a dance album top to bottom and the one ballad, track 9 "Time is Ticking" acts like a bridging "palate cleanser" between the first 8 pop/dance tracks and the last 6 tracks which are more club oriented. Like her last dance album "gloria!" from 1998, the tracks tend to segue from one to the next, like a sort of DJ mix but it's a little bit different this time around featuring phone messages between Gloria and Pharrell. Beyond all the music is a unique little concept. Each track ascertains the "story" of the title character "Miss Little Havana" which narrates a cautionary, albeit fun tale of love beating adversity. Here is a track-by-track review...

Miss Little Havana. Opening with a rhythmic chant sung over a layer of trumpets, trombones, cow-bells and hand claps the song then explodes into its catchy chorus built around an electronic funk beat which combines 80's synthesizer riffs and drum machines amid a complex horn arrangement that recalls Gloria's hey-day with Miami Sound Machine. It's the perfect introduction that links the old school to the new.

I Can't Believe.

The latino queen returns, and boy has she still got it! Gloria should be available on the national health, in these desperate times she gives an album that is impossible to listen to without dancing, it is so upbeat, it will banish anybodys blues.
The voice remains as strong as ever, the latin rythmns are as good as ever, and the co-production with Pharell opens up a new Gloria, combining the salsa rythmns with a thumping disco beat that Lady Ga Ga would be proud of.The cuban beauty should allow others to produce her more often, when ,she is stretched, her endless talent shines like a beacon.
Stand out tracks are the title track, which is sunshine on a cd.
Thumping music and superb vocals abound, but" say I", "On" and "Make my heart go" are instant classics."Hotel Nacional" is a twentys inspired masterpiece, this lady never disappoints.
"Right away" and "Make me say yes" are a throw back to "Believe" by Cher as they use the wobbly voice thingy, but as you can always gaurantee, Gloria tackles new ground and does it with style and class.
As the weather draws in and world wide gloom descends, do yourself a favour, and let the sensational superstar that is Gloria Estefan take you to a better place.
In the words of the beauty herself
"Its time for hoochie coochie"
bring it on!

Gloria and Pharrell create a masterpiece blending thumping rhythmn and latin beats in a highly polished collection that is uplifting and energizing. All topped off by Gloria's distinctive vocals. A great cd after an 8 year wait - well worth it
