Product description

Product Description

UNISONIC are Michael Kiske (ex. Helloween) on vocals, Kai Hansen (ex. Helloween, GammaRay) on guitars, Mandy Meyer (ex. Asia, ex. Cobra, ex. Gotthard, Krokus) also on guitars, Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69) on bass guitar and Kosta Zafi riou (ex. PC 69) on drums. Kiske and Hansen are back together in a band after being apart for 23 years which made a dream come true for all metal fans worldwide and the first time since Kai departed Helloween in 1988 and Kiske followed him in 93.

Their debut album simply called “Unisonic” appeared in spring 2012 to great critical acclaim and commercial success and was followed by a world wide tour with dates in South America, Europe and Japan which marked Kiske´s return to the stage for the first time in 17 years. While the album was spiked with remarkable riffs and Kiske´s “out-of-this-world” vocals it was only a matter of time until the band re-groups and hits back into the studio to record and even more impressive second effort.

“Light Of Dawn” has even wider musical approach as the first record.

Opener “Your Time Has Come” sounds fresh from the “Keeper” sessions but not a leftover - it will bring tears to the eyes of all Kiske/Hansen fans. “For The Kingdom” the EPs title track is musically similar but not as fast while “Exceptional” the albums fi st single and video has a thunder groove and an “exceptional” chorus. “Not Gonna Take Anymore” offers some Judas Priest-like hymn, “Blood” and “You And I” are the type of so-called ballads other bands are dying to write. “When The Deed Is Done” is written from the perspective of a hangman and “Night Of The Long Knives” deals with minions during the 3rd reich and 2nd world war phase.

Produced again by bass player Dennis Ward the album was recorded in the spring of 2014 and features an again “exceptional” artwork by Martin Hausler who is also responsible for the video for the first single. The band is firing on all cylinders but it is again Michael Kiske´s voice that makes the difference - his voice is so unique and remarkable and strong and makes him the best metal singer of all time next to Ronnie James Dio, Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford and Geoff Tate.

Unisonic's second album is destined to be one of the best rock albums of 2014. It simply has all the right ingredients mixed properly in order to create a very enjoyable and impressive result.

Michael Kiske (ex-Helloween, Place Vendome) on vocals, Kai Hansen (ex-Helloween, Gamma Ray) on guitars, Mandy Meyer (Gotthard, ex-Krokus) on guitars and Dennis Ward together with Kosta Zafiriou (Pink Cream 69) on the rhythm section, manage to create a very successful blend of melodic hard rock and melodic heavy metal that will please most fans of the two genres.

"Light Of Dawn" finds Unisonic more focused and very confident. The songwriting has improved, the instrumentation is mesmerizing, there are numerous impressive alternating guitar solos and Kiske provides one of the best vocal performances of his entire career. The album oozes with energy, technical proficiency, musical diversity and contains many excellent songs.

There are three power metal songs on offer and all of them are strong, managing to harken back to the old Helloween sound of the 80's. The most traditional of the three is the smashing opener "Your Time Has Come", which could easily fit in both Keeper Of The Seven Keys albums. This is the fastest song on the album and is blessed with an amazing chorus, high operatic vocals and a wonderful guitar solo section. "For The Kingdom" is heavier, includes some outstanding alternating guitar solos and a great chorus, while "Find Shelter" leans towards progressive metal and contains several tempo changes.

The majority of the remaining songs fall in the melodic hard rock category. One of the strongest is the epic "Night Of The Long Knives", which starts slow only to burst into a catchy hard rock groove.

This is a monster CD from the intro Venite 2.0 through to Bonus track Judgement day. I loved the first album, but this is a real step up. Excellent musicianship abounds; thumping drums, great interplay between Mandy Meyer and Kai Hansen, a more prominent bass line and a sublime vocal performance from Michael Kiske. Standout tracks for me are Your time has come, Exceptional, For the Kingdom, Night of the Long Knives and the splendid ballad You and I. The box set is full of goodies and well worth the extra money. Now some UK dates would be nice!!

The second full album release from these guys, this is how Helloween would have sounded if Kai & Michael had still been in the band, but instead we get Unisonic. The pace of this album is awesome, it really gets your heart racing (I wouldn't recommend listening to it in the car, you may find that you start to break the speed limit). The production on this album is great, speed metal can often suffer from a blurred soundscape, but with Unisonic each instrument has clarity in the blend, with Michael's vocals rising above so you can hear each word of the lyrics. If you like Helloween in the '80's or Gamma Ray from the 90's to now, then you'll love this.

Very good article, a must have for the fans of unisonic and Helloween (Michael Kiske +Kai Hansen) / Gamma Ray / Place Vendome.

If more articles of this ware made, for sure the fans will buy more music (the price should be a little lower).

I recomended next time, put all the record in vinyl and in mp3 (not in CD), plus a bonus 7" like it was made and keep the T-Shirt and more pop up`s - This is the future for industry music !!

This is a killer album, even better than the first one. I love Kiske's voice, and this is a much better offering than the latest Place Vendome. All songs hit the mark, and Dennis Ward's production (and bass) is fantastic. There is no point in writing more - BUY THIS NOW.
