4.0 out of 5 stars Wild and Wonderful 30 Sept. 2014

No matter what you think of the Dirtbombs, there is no denying this band's enthusiam and unbridled energy. They've got it going in buckets, and their sincere dedication and love for playing music is embodied in every single song on this double disc set, Disc 1 being "The Originals" and Disc 2 the "Covers."

Honestly, I don't love it all. Some of the songs are bit too frenetic and noisy for my tastes, but overall I enjoy most of the album, impressed with the energetic originals and clever cover versions. How to describe the sound on this album? Mix equal parts Iggy and the Stooges with the Rolling Stones, Roxy Music ... and Flipper. Well, that comes close anyway. It's that much fun, and that hard to categorize. But really, what other band can cover songs by Stevie Wonder, Elliot Smith, Lou Rawls, Gun Club, Soft Cell, Smokey Robinson, the English Beat, Yoko Ono, the Ohio Players, and the Bee Gees (among many others) ... and make them all sound like creatively written original material? I don't think there is another band that is this daring.

If you haven't heard the Dirtbombs before, delay no longer: Your rock and roll soul needs this music!

5.0 out of 5 stars safe as chocolate milk 19 Sept. 2005

...maybe the best "post modern" garage rock album since Capt. Beefheart's "Safe as Milk"...big funky bottom juxtaposed with Mick's angular white hot r-n-r guitar...rocket soul music...if the Captain had been the greatest black rock singer to walk the planet, instead of the greatest white blues singer, he and the original Magic Band might have sounded something like this...course one reason it's so great is, as Mick says in the liner notes, these songs are all SINGLES!...crank this bitch up and do the Beavis and Butthead Booty Shake!

This has a permanent home in slot 9 & 10 of my Jeep's disc-changer. I find it hard to believe you're hated in Scandanavia.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gimme dirt, baby! 5 Aug. 2005
By Paul J. Escamilla - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I just saw the Dirtbombs last week in NYC and once again, they completely tore the roof of the joint. Once the double drummers kicked in, it was on! Within seconds, I was a pogoing sweaty mess.

From start to finish, Mick and the band put on an awesome display of rock excellence. And they managed to do it despite the fact that one of their 2 bass players had to run to the hospital with a sliced-open hand just a song or two into the set.

The Dirtbombs are rock deities.

I bow down. I bow down. I kiss their feet.

There is no question that the Dirtbombs are the current kings of the Detroit rock scene, as they have been for several years. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of other great bands coming out of the Motor City, but let's be serious, folks. It all begins and ends with this band.

Buy this collection of songs and douse yourself in some rock'n'roll kerosene!
