Alright - now this little gem of an album has been sitting in my collection for some little time now...but I just have had so many other albums to listen to that I hadn't got around to playing it. And, without exception, IMHO, this is a cracker!
I have been collecting Stoney's work from day one and while he's produced some pretty good stuff, this is far and away his best block of work to date and, to my mind, should propel him into the same spotlight as Joe Bonamassa, Eric Gales and Kenny Wayne Shepherd as it is a blues, blues/rock guitar fest of the first order! Yes I know that his vocals aren't that great, but the guitar more than makes up....and isn't this the point, we listen to this kind of music for the guitar, and so long as the vocals are passable, then it's a win/win situation is it not?
Kicking off with "Pure Greed", Stoney and his band set out the classic opener that will set the standard and expectation of what is to follow - and it's a belter with a riff that just crawls into your head and lodges and anyone who likes blues/rock is going to love it from first bar to last.
In quick succession we are treated to "Grifter" and "Life In Odd Times" as two more rockers followed by a slightly slowed down blues number in "I Can't Live My Life This Way"....but nothing prepares you for the aural assault that is the almost 11 minute opus of "Deja Vu" as an out and out 12 bar blues with the solos, infills and phrasing to knock you sideways. Stoney really lays down his guitar credentials!
And after this, Stoney still takes no prisoners and rocks you on to the close out of "In The Shadows"
If you've never given this man and his band a listen - I really cannot recommend this album more highly to you.
Whether you like rock or blues or just great guitar, you'll find plenty to keep your feet tapping - and no skipping - the replay button is the one you'll be pushing, over and over again - that's a promise!

As Stony Curtis is known for his Bliues Output this has a mix of both Blues and Rocky songs The emphasis is on good guitar playing of a lengthy nature on certain tracks often lasting around or over the five minute mark Theref ore if you enjoy guitar this is an album for you

Stoney Curtis has carved his own path and delivers a unique and distinctive sound in the blues rock genre. This album is his best to date, although I do love all of his work. He successfully takes you on a rollercoaster ride from euphoric rock to heartbreaking ballads. A mixture of power and emotion will leave you breathless and begging for more. Curtis casts a spell with his guitar magic and is truly a master of his field. If you love blues, if you love rock, you won't be disappointed. Sit back, turn it up loud and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars top notch 9 May 2014

I've been getting a stoney curtis CD every 6 moths or so for a while. I've seen review comparing to Johhny Lang and KWS. I think he is better than both, but I listen to those guys too. For sure Stoney has longer solos, which is my main thing. His live stuff is very good too. recommend!
