Product description

Product Description

Brand new album by Marconi Union. Over fourteen years of writing and performing, Marconi Union have continually steadi-ly refined and developed a unique musical identity, gracefully blending together ele-ments of dub, jazz, ambience and electronica within their richly melodic compositions, evoking emotions that set them apart from their peers. Before making a record Marconi Union usually have a clear idea about its ultimate di-rection. But this time, they decided to set aside any preconceptions, they spent the last two years experimenting with playing, programming, editing, re-editing, (agreeing and disagreeing) until Ghost Stations naturally evolved. Once the title was decided upon, everything fell into place connecting ideas of abandonment, empty spaces and dereliction. Marconi Union have never been afraid to accept the challenge of moving forward, try-ing new things and making new music and with Ghost Stations, their ninth studio al-bum, (which features on two tracks guest musicians Digitonal's Andy Dobson on clar-inet and Giorgio Li Calzi on trumpet) their music pushes the boundaries still further yet continues to straddle the worlds of artistic credibility and musical accessibility.

For a few years now i have looked forward to writing this review. Marconi Union released Weightless two years ago or something like that. It was really brilliant because like all their albums, it was a concept very deeply rooted in a specific topic. Now, on this the ninth album, the concept explored in Weightless becomes even more profound as you see that they weren't just floating down into the chilled out ether vibe like a great big opium air bag that they were exploring something, a notion of being relaxed to the core. No, like Weightless, Ghost Stations is also characterized by a special concept, solitude maybe, probably not, but I am too early to understand the meaning behind it.

What i can say is that by any standard to produce 9 excellent albums is something special. The musicality and production on this album is world class. The band bring in so many different elements that i just cant put my finger on what they are about but one thing for sure, they are brilliant and for me that is about as much as I need to know as each one represents a magical musical journey.

The 9th album by Marconi Union and it was a pleasant surprise, dark ethereal ambient electronica which is also somewhat uplifting and life affirming. I can hear some shades of Bowie in there along with some Kraftwerk percussion sounds. Even though these influences are apparent they have made something that is there own.
