I though the age of great electric blues albums was dead? I thought that to be recorded playing electric blues these days you had to play tonnes of overblown (and frankly boring) guitar solos and try to sound like Stevie Ray Vaughan (though lord knows why, he was never that good in the first place). Maybe Bobby Rush's Album "Folk Funk" is the exeption that proves the rule.

It is an amazing album, recalling John Lee Hooker or R.L. Burnside at there best yet full of Rush's funky guitar and harp. Rush is joined by slide guitarist Alvin Youngblood Hart (veterin of many Steve James albums and a damn fine artist in his own right) on all tracks and Alvin's playing add some rawness to the procedings.

Hopefully Rush will produce more albums like this in the near future. Thumbs up to Ruf records for recording and releasing a superb album.

Well worth your money and time. Every track met or exceeded my expectations. I think it won a Grammy Award or should have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Notch 21 Feb. 2007
By Rick T - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I've liked Bobby rush as a performer but have been underwhelmed by his releases. The samples of this one sounded different enough to give a try. It was worth it. The production is sharp and captures him better than any disc I have previously heard. You won't be disappointed start to finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars rock and rap confidential tell us 28 July 2004
By jj - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Inhaling Hendrix through Hooker and letting it all out through the Delta traditions he was raised on, 64-year-old Bobby Rush has made one of the best blues albums of the past decade or two. With help from the next generation of bluesmen (Alvin Youngblood Hart), Rush uses a commanding vocal presence to make this music leap out of the speakers. Whether the topic is history ("Everybody Wants to Know") or come hither ("Ride in My Automobile"), these songs prove that there is still life along the sanitized assembly line that dominates the blues market today.
