Product description

The dead sea scrolls of jazz - as described by Ross Russell in his informative and scholarly liners. Earliest recordings of the young Charlie Parker with Jay McShann for Station KFBI Wichita, Kansas, from 1940. Featuring Bernard 'Buddy' Anderson, Bob Gould, Gene Ramsey, Gus Johnson and others.

Also includes the track "Cherokee" an on location recording by Parker from Clark Monroe's Uptown House, 1941/2. With unidentified musicians.

Tracks 9-17 are from a 1943 recording of Jay McShann And His Orchestra, with the exact recording details and personnel unkown. But believed to include Paul Quinichette, Les Paul, Willie Cook, Gene Ramsey, Walter Brown, Alfonso Fook and others.
