This album is all about huge riffs and loud vocals with a catchy melody, which combined, make this one of the greatest hard rock albums to come out of the 1980's and one of the most underrated to boot.
I truly believe that there is not 1 bad song on this album - NOT ONE!!
Tracii Guns, the guitarist, formed this band after leaving Guns n' Roses thinking gnr had no chance of success and, you know, I really think that this album is on a par with Appetite for Destruction. They just sound different.
Being released in 1989, when grunge was starting to take its hold of the world and new hard rock band Skid Row were topping the charts, people would have dismissed this as "just another hair band." Their loss!
If I had to recommend one song worth buying the album alone for, it must be Ballad of Jayne. This ballad is easily up there with Guns n' Roses' "Sweet Child O' Mine" and Motley Crue's "All I need".
Buy this if you call yourself a rock fan!!!

This is without a doubt L.A. Guns best album, sure the 1st had most of the classics on, but as a whole it fell flat toward the second half. Hollywood vampires was musically better and had its moments but doesn't compare to C&L. From "Slap In The Face" to "Malaria" & "Wheels Of Fire" this is true rock brilliance. I highly recommend this album to any rock fan, shame there aren't bands around like this anymore. True rock n' roll throughout.

bit late in the day actually for me to review this little gem seen as I bought it in 1989! Just thought i'd better write something special as this album is certainly worthy of it. In fact after first hearing this, I realised that it was a genuine masterpiece of the hair metal era and is definatly up there with appetite as an album with no crap songs!
cocked and loaded was part of my inspiration to learn the guitar, its full of amazing guitar riffs and songs that make you want to rock out! nostalga, you cant beat it!

LA Guns! Cocked and Loaded! - I had this on cassete in the 80's and loved it! It's just such a classic album.

From the first listen I was again hooked on the smoky gravelly voice and light hearted guitar notes. One other noticeable element is the cow bell that the drummer enjoys a good old tonk on (on more than one song)!

The lyrics are really good - not sure if you could say meaningful - but they seem to tell a story which I like. I'm lucky enough to have a car with a cd changer - so this is permanently loaded in the car.

Favourite lines " I've been dreaming bout this nighhhhht!

"she's leaving town on a grey hound bussss wooo hooo"

"oooooooooooh madgeline"

If you've never listened to LA guns before then I certainly reccomend them - and if you have listened before but like me have had an old cassete kicking around for years - then make the purchase and enjoy the loud sounds !

It might help newcomers to equate the band to Motley Crue, I think this is a similar style.

Thanks and enjoy the songs!

as much as love GNR but i always had a thing for the underdogs especially LA GUNS of whom Axl Rose then formed with Traci Gunns before jumping ship.

This album by far is their best which has been given shot in the arm by ex-girl lead singer Phil Lewis'es shouty rawk and roll vocals added by the rifftastic bites coming from Traci's guitar.

Best album that nearly holds its own against appetitie for destruction!
