Product description

Product Description

Duels style is dramatic, sometimes avant-garde, new-wave pop with sinister undercurrents that creates a unique and vibrant sound. They have toured the UK with the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Graham Coxon, The Cribs, The Rakes and Forward, Russia. The perfect soundtrack to Duels' ascent from the indie gutter. 8/10 NME / Melody and imagination to spare. 4/5 Album of the Week The Guardian

Having garnered a glut of great reviews for 'Bright Lights...' it seemed only a matter of time for the acendency to stardom. But in the end, I don't think I saw or heard a single piece of publicity for the album and the any kind of momentum fizzled out and I wondered what would become of them.

Fortunately it seems like they have regrouped and redoubled their efforts (it's telling that they are on a different label this time around), and the result is a quite brilliant album. As noted by other reviewers the sound is much darker (thought lyrically the first album was pretty damn cynical) and much richer for it. The new material also works really well live.

Personally I feel that the problem (if you can really call it a 'problem') that DUELS have is that they are a very difficult outfit to pigeonhole, and when people inevitably ask me who they sound like, I struggle to name anyone.

Well worth the wait, I just hope someone picks up this album and runs with it.

Darker and rockier than The Bright Lights... This will make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. Deserves attention!

This album seems to be coming out with zero publicity or press attention, which is a crying shame as it means it probably won't have the success it deserves.

If you had this band pegged as a sort of Automatic-clone novelty indie band after their first album and its main single 'Animal', think again. They went away and reinvented themselves as purveyors of mature, velvety-dark pop with an edge. Think The Veils with more and better hooks.

The album engages you from start to finish, with a proper old-school album flow, and with no filler whatsoever. Highly recommended.
