On Always Got Tonight, Chris Isaak's eighth album, he shows that he is still intent on continuing in the role of melancholy balladeer. With his movie-star good looks, affable personality and string of celebrity girlfriends, it's increasingly hard to see him in as the perpetual loser in love, despite the convincing likes of "Cool Love" (Love is a flame / I just got burned again") or the mournful "Nothing to Say" ("Nothing to say now / Nothing to do / I feel my heart breaking and it's all because of you"). The real mystery is why his doctor hasn't given him a prescription for Prozac. Isaak momentarily breaks out of his funk with the adventurous and witty "Notice the Ring", which pays cheeky homage to the Contours' "First I Look at the Purse" and the beat-heavy, Beck-like title track. But Isaak largely seems content to live in the past, strumming the same vintage guitar licks and singing the same sad, sad songs. --Jaan Uhelszki

This album brings Chris Isaak back to familiar territory. His swooning vocals and heartfelt guitar work are perfect for this album. This album comprises mostly of ballads but there are a few rockier numbers to even out the balance. It's a really good album and it's full of Isaak's trademark lyrics and vocal delivery. This album is a couple of steps up the ladder from his last outing with 'Speak of the Devil' good as it is, though this one brings him back to the sound we love him for, the romantic ballads and occasional rock sounds.

What's refreshing to hear is his success isn't through the manufactured rubbish that we hear today, it's because of what comes naturally to him. He's really big in the US and listening to his songs and albums, I find it difficult to believe that he's not a big success anywhere else. I think that it's lovely to hear a singer as good as Chris Isaak who does what he does just out of enjoyment of doing it. And it's also nice to hear a modern day version of the Elvis Presley/Roy Orbison mould that Chris Isaak has become. A great album by an excellent singer/songwriter who is near the peak of his form.

I discovered Chris Isaak a few months ago. I now have five cd's, Baja Sessions is the purest in many ways, whilst my favourite is Always Got Tonight. Crank this up on a good hi-fi system and it behaves perfectly. Great songs and great communication spill from your speakers, all set to the quality backdrop of shimmering guitars played by Hershel Yatovitz. Delicious.

For me good production values are critical and always present on his work which is why his music is always rich and has a lot going on. You can listen over and over again and never tire of it. Fabulous - what more could you want!

This CD is a real treat for Isaac fans. His mellifluous vocals and the haunting guitar of his band Silvertone mixed in with his gifted lyrical input make this definitive Isaac. This like his World hit debut album 'Wicked Game' are very consistent in sound , mood and tone and he's come full circle with this CD which he failed in his previous release 'Speak of the devil'.
What makes this CD great is that he sticks to his trademark crying vocals and instrumentally hes back to his renaissance perioud of Wicked Game, so refreshing to see an artist firmly in the mould of Elvis and Orbison restore your faith in Music, no manufactured rubbish just an artist doing what he loves.
Without wanting to sound like a sycophant i believe Isaac is one of the most gifted singer songwriters in our time, and is massive in the USA, hes a bit of an unknown over here yet you've probably heard his stuff as hes covered so many movies and even the Jaguar Car Commercial ( thats a remixed wicked game ) he did the Theme tune to Eyes Wide Shut' 'True Romance' , 'Wild At Heart etc , in short this is a great introductory album to his work.
The most moving tracks on here are on track 3/5/ and 10 believe me their ****** beautiful.
This is the perfect CD for low lights , a bottle of Deep Red Chardonnay and 2 horny people.

Irresistibly tender, I love it, it's almost as good as "Wicked Game".
