5.0 out of 5 stars Great Movies, Great Music. 13 Oct. 2013
By Captain Mark - Published on

I bought it strictly for "The Storm Cloud Cantata" and was not disappointed. As a choral/Opera singer, I'd love to be able to sing a live performance of this work. If you don't buy this recording you are PSYCHO.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hitchcock Film Scores 21 May 2012
By Patricia A. Souders - Published on
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
I have to admit that I only purchased this CD to get the main performance from The Man Who Knew Too Much ("Storm Cloud Cantata") and I was not disappointed. I love it, and I love the other music from other Hitchcock movies. You will love this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars For the Bernard Herrmann Completest 23 Mar. 2012
By gobirds2 - Published on
Format: Audio CD
I buy just about any Bernard Herrmann recordings for my library. The selections here are a bit sparce and overall running time is rather short, yet I cannot argue about the quality of the recordings. They are exceptional. Most impressive is "The Storm Cloud Cantata" from THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH. The few snippets of Bernard Herrmann's commentary, though brief, are still insightful giving the listener a firsthand account of the great composer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Music Great, Herrmann Dry 6 Feb. 2000
By A Customer - Published on
Format: Audio CD
Bernard Herrmann, arguably one of the best film composers ever, created sounds for Hitchcock's films which are as important and indellible as the images captured by the camera. This recording shows you why. The two best things about this CD are "The Storm Cloud Cantata" (from both versions of "The Man Who Knew Too Much"), and the prelude to "The Wrong Man," two pieces rarely heard. The commentary by Herrmann, while a tiny bit dry at times, is both enlightening and useful. A very good investment, for devoted fans of Herrmann, Hitchcock, and movie music.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Tad Short 2 Feb. 2004
By A Customer - Published on
Format: Audio CD
The only reason I didn't assign five stars to this CD is its length; I don't think it cracks 30 minutes. However, it packs a lot of quality into that short timespan. Elmer Bernstein does a stellar job of conducting his colleague's material (performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra), and I found Bernard Herrmann's commentary entertaining and instructive. If you have the opportunity to acquire this CD for cheap, jump on it--you might not be able to acquire the prelude from The Wrong Man and The Storm Clouds cantata anywhere else.
