`Encyclopaedic in scope, with well considered and intelligent advice on almost every subject a home-worker might trip over, from running a business to household politics...Quite genuinely a compelling read.'
From the Author
I noticed from my own experience, and from dealing with many home businesses as a business adviser, that home workers tend to be very hard on themselves. We assume that any difficulties we face are personal failings, that we lack discipline, are easily distracted and prone to procrastination. But the fact is that working in the same place as you live creates its own challenges, and I want to make home workers aware of this and offer some solutions.
I spoke to more than 50 home workers all over the country, in both rural and city locations, in all kinds of industries, from sales to B&B, from bookkeepers to craftsmen, and asked about the challenges they had faced, their successes and failures. They were all incredibly open about the pros and cons of home working and gave me some great stories for the book.
What became evident is that different people find different solutions to the same problem, and sometimes quite the opposite solution! The idea behind the book is to offer examples for readers to try out so they can find the best options for their particular circumstances.
If readers come away feeling better and saying 'Oh, thank goodness it's not just me who feels like that', then I'll be happy.

It can be tough to work from home but this book made me realise I was lucky to be able to make the choice and now I will get more out of it.
I know I'll dip in and out of this book again and again and really use it as a 'bible' for my business.
It is obvious this is written by someone who has set up her own business as it covers so many practical aspects, including those issues that aren't discussed by theorists, such as, how to find a workspace if you haven't the luxury of a spare room; what to do about feeling isolated or demotivated; how to get the support of your family.
My copy is well thumbed, full of highlighted passages and notes, and is constantly on my desk.
Easy to read, a practical handbook for any homeworker, or those contemplating throwing in the wage packet for the exciting entrepreneurial life!
