Would really recommend this book. The WI are celebrating their first century. This book shows photos through the ages and has great recipe through from then till now. Bought it for my daughter who was thrilled with it. Also about to give a copy to daughter in law.

Very disappointed with this cook book I assumed as part of the WI that it would give very basic menus that even a male pensioner would be able to easily follow. Not true at seventy five years old these were not the simple menus I expected.

As a member of the W.I. I thought it a good idea to buy this to support the cause! I also got one for one of my daughters. There are really good recipes in it, but quite a few can be found in other cookery books. Still, good for learners!

I like this book as it is interesting but the recipes were not as plentiful or varied as they are in most WI Books, purely because of the limitations of trying to cook and feed a family during both World Wars. It is worth the money just for the historical aspect and I am pleased that I have it. I would imagine that this would be a good book for schools to have as a reference book when teaching pupils the history of WW1 and 2 and the privations that people endured. I found it fascinating and a tribute to how people managed and made do during difficult periods in our history.
