I stumbled across this book and was immediately taken by the terrific title - how could I not read it ?! I'm so pleased I did. It is a delightfully humorous and well-written affair and I found the author's style remarkably free-flowing and easy to read - and that's notwithstanding the excellent vocabulary that on occasion had me stretching for my trusted dictionary !

You really don't need to be particularly interested in camping to enjoy the story and to share in Chris's entertaining travel experiences; you also certainly don't need to be male - I chuckled at it every bit as much as my husband did as there is plenty for everyone to relate to !

I also found that it was a considerably more educational read than I had been anticipating and there is much to interest those who wish to learn. I have to say that my husband and I have even discussed the possibility of trying to follow in the author's footsteps and taking the same journey !

I would recommend this book to anyone and I very much look forward to reading about Mr Lown's further travels ...

This book is very funny and intelligently and well written. I cannot recommend it highly enough, one of the best books I have ever read. I was attracted to it initially by the quirky title which is very apt. I love the way the book is laid out with conclusions at the end of each chapter. I have to admit it is too long since I have read the book, I travel and so am always on and off internet. So sorry to Chris Lown for taking so long to leave a review :/ . I think anybody who enjoys travel or reading about it should read this great book, even though the author is obviously well educated it is not difficult to read but is difficult to put down. And as for it being free on kindle, well that is just amazing, no excuse not to read it if you have kindle.

With his descriptive flair and his obvious observational skills, Chris Lown has created a fine example of a travel book/work of fiction/non fiction/drama, hell I dont know what to call it. What I do know is that I enjoyed it. Mr Lown is funny without being silly, and very informative without being patronising. This book is an entertaining learning experience to rival Michael Palin (if he ever took it upon himself to do any journey as short)or Tony Hawkes (if he ever decided to do anyting funny of informative). If I have a criticism, its that the notes were all contained in an appendix at the end which made reffering to them a little inconvenient on the Kindle version but other than that I loved it.

I hope there is more to come.

Colin

Reading the title was enough to make me know I would love this book and I did. His sense of humour and the way he wrote about Germany even made it seem visitable! and I would also like to know his friend Jan, hope he is real.
Thanks for a very enjoyable two days curled up reading it.

Fantastic read, kept my wife awake with my belly laughs, which is unusual, I'm normally the one asleep. Highly recommended and would happily have paid to read it. Thanks Chris
When are you heading to Cape Town? (Look up Lizzybus, a remarkable road trip but could have your writing skills to make an epic story)

Well the Title made me titter and I tittered, laughed and sniggered all the way to the end of the book. You don't have to be a fan of camping, beer or cheese to enjoy the humour and tales of woe, but it will appeal to anyone who has sense of humour and enjoys travel.

As a German I loved reading this. It reminded me of so many places and so many cliches were shown that in reality are quite true. Funny, witty writing. And a great reminder not to buy a Windbreaker Deluxe. Love it!
