Unlock the Magic of Tarot
The key to your future is in the cards! Tarot Spells presents practical ways to create positive changes in your life using the power of the Tarot. No elaborate rituals or tools are required -- your spells can be as simple or complex as you desire. All you need is an open mind and a deck of Tarot cards to:
-- Attract love and romance
-- Improve your finances
-- Encourage good health
-- Enhance creativity
-- Overcome obstacles
-- Develop psychic awareness
Even if you have no experience working with the Tarot, this unique book tells you how the archetypal symbols of the Tarot speak to the subconscious mind and add power to your spells. For those already familiar with the cards, Tarot Spells opens new doors to knowledge and creativity. And in this updated edition, author Janina Renee responds to the most frequently asked questions from readers about Tarot Spells, including how to customize your spells to meet specific needs.
About the Author
Janina Renee is a scholar of folklore, psychology, medical anthropology, the material culture of magic, ritual studies, history, and literature. Her books include Tarot Spells, Tarot Your Everyday Guide (winner of 2001 Coalition of Visionary Resources award for best Self Help book), Tarot for a New Generation (2002 COVR winner, best General Interest Title), and By Candlelight: Rites for Celebration, Blessing and Prayer (2005 COVR runner-up, Spirituality). Janina continues to work on multiple books, with ongoing research projects exploring the ways folk magic and medicinal techniques can apply to modern problems, including the modulation of Asperger's Syndrome and other neuro-sensory processing problems.

However, the thing that I really like about this book is it's simplicity. Instead of reading like one of Ray Buckland's incredibly boring "Practical magick" works or Aliester Crowley's "confusing-until-you-can-understand-magick" books, this book is very clear and concise in its writing style. It's a book that you can understand-even if you have never picked up a magickal text. All you need are the cards and the book, and you can cast any spell you wish.
The Tarot Deck used, the Robin Wood deck is stunning. If you buy the book, buy the deck to go with it.
* the way it has added a new dimension to my Tarot practice
* the easy to follow format - look up a spell and away you go
* the fact that all you need is a Tarot deck, but if you want to add bells and whistles then go ahead
* you can adapt the wording of the spells to suit your particular needs
* the spells work!
I only give it four stars because of the love spell that tells you how to get a particular person to fall in love with you. See, in my opinion, that's dark magic, because it forces someone to do something against their rational will. Anyone considering this spell needs to ask themselves how they would like it if the boot were on the other foot and they were made to fall in love with someone they really didn't want to be with. Horrible, right? In mitigation, Renee tells us that you can't actually get anyone to do anything they don't want to with this book and these spells, it just magically stacks the deck in your favour, in many ways. But still, it still comes over as creepy and horrible and opens the door to a sinister way of thinking.
I have a couple of Tarot spell books, and although the other one is very profound and academic on the history and esoteric systems in the Tarot, so in that sense it was very helpful and I learned a lot, Renee's book's spells work in a practical way. It could also introduce you to the Tarot as a tool for guidance, which is its primary function.
