How lucky it was for Britain that we had this antiquated old by-plane at the start of the war. Yes it was an antique by all standards, but we coukld not have done without it. The aircraft design of struts and wires was of a by gone era,but that does not detractfrom the braveryof the crews that flew them or of the brave exploits that they performed in these ancient warriors of the sky.Th eaircraft itself was so versitile that it is understandable why the crews loved its ruggedness, reliability and continual adaptability to requirements that were never visioned. If you cant imagine what it was like to fly a Stringbag who's ceiling was less than 10,000 feet for obvious rerasons. Then read this book folks. It will give you an inkling of the spirit of adventure that these brave men experienced, albeit in a hostile situation of continuous calling. Though do try to appreciate that these pages are telling actual stories of actual events that took place by men doing continuously performing brave deeds in an aircraft that seemed to many as out dated and out of place! Ironicallywithout this wonderful Stringbag, Britain would have been hard pressed to find a replacement that could perform all what the Stringbag dad to perform but was not designed to do.....but at the same time expected to provide results that warranted the bravery of the crews that flew these ancient aircraft in all weathers .Stringbag: The Fairey Swordfish at War

You have got to read this book to believe how brave the crews were to go into combat in such an old designed aircraft. It beggers belief that such courageous men could be found, but they were. The stories told are a testerment to the bravery of those who flew the Stringbag on active service. The stories themselves tell the story of the men in the stories. It is a well worthwhile read on many acts of bravery and skill and determination.Try it and you will appreciate what I mean.

Great insight into the often ignored world of 2nd world war torpedo bombers, and interestingly the other mission types flown.

A very detailed account of the aircraft and it's action history. It jumps about a little, but covers all the important actions. A very good appendix of all the Naval Squadrons to operate the aircraft
