Peter Carroll in fine form. Gritty, straight to the characters and action, no holds barred thriller.
It might upset some people to accept the fact - in this 'modern' age - but the characters are entirely believable.
The enigmatic opening chapter is followed by the story unfolding at a cracking pace, a pace which rarely pauses for breath throughout.
Exceptional value for the Kindle price.

Stark Choices is a cracker of a read which has it all for me, police procedural, twisty plot, black humour, believable characters and set in Scotland. I couldn't ask for a better reading scenario. DI Adam Stark has returned home to Alloa to work after many years with the Met and is thrown headfirst into a missing teenager case. The child in question, Tina, is a member of the McDuff clan, Adam's childhood enemies, so he is not welcomed with open arms by this dysfunctional family. To add to the mix Tina's aunt Stella has won the lottery and disappeared without telling her family. I hope you are keeping up so far because it gets more and more complicated after that with money and anger at the root of most of it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The plot is complicated with a few excellent twists but it all makes sense and is easy to follow. The humour is of the "take no prisoners" variety so brutal but very funny. Mr Carroll's portrayal of the dysfunctional McDuffs is spot on and would be funny if it wasn't so sadly true. Adam is probably the most difficult character to get a fix on and I still, after 2 books, find him a bit of a cypher, I can't get an accurate read.
I was so engrossed in Stark Choices I read it one sitting and immediately downloaded the next one, Stark Realities so I can't think of a better recommendation.

I gave this four stars, as I found it a good easy read, that kept me involved throughout. I initially thought that it would be a mish mash of Rebus and Taggart detectives. However, I found the charai strong enough to stand on their own.

See the heading above? Well, checking for Peter Carroll here on Amazon, I was astounded that I did not review this novel of his - Stark Choices. That I had overlooked it.

The novel, as Peter Carroll's other novels, is a really enjoyable read. He writes well; has an interesting turn of phrase, and is never boring.

Mr Carroll when is your next novel out?

You who are reading this: do buy this novel. Take it on your summer holiday, take it on your weekend outing, take it on bus or the underground, because it will make your day.

Well, done Mr Carroll.

Couldn't put this down. Brilliant read. Feel as if I know Adam Stark personally and can't wait for the next one in the series to see what happens in his life.

I read book one and loved it, so as we all do I downloaded book two straight away and started reading. I'm sorry to say I haven't completed this book as I do not read books where every second line has swear words in it. I have no doubt this is probably a great story, but unfortunately I will never know. Won't be wasting my time or money on book three just in case it follows suit. So disappointed.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, & would recommend it to anyone.
This is the third novel I have read from Peter Carroll & like the first one I found it hard to put down, a great story line & written in a believable gritty manor with loads of twists & turns to keep you turning the pages, can't wait to read the next one.
