Star crossed lovers who apparently cannot be together in this life, wind up punishing one another for their choices. Decades later, when one dies the other fancies that she’s having a close encounter with a ghost. That is just the beginning of a very compellingly written self described memoir. Unfortunately as a reader I think my mindset is too modern and too pragmatic to appreciate this creatively embellished story. I did not connect with Amanda, the young woman whose entire life is tainted by memories of a rather destructive “first love.” The details of their romantic escapades, though lovingly penned by the author amounted to a severely calamitous relationship where each sought to inflict emotional pain upon the other time and time again. Honestly, I felt rather depressed by it all. Amanda’s opining for this lost ‘first love,’ continues despite marrying someone else and having children. Again, the writing is well done. It’s merely the story that rankled me.
The second part of the novel is dedicated to Amanda’s voyage of self discovery as she attempts to make sense of her spirited relationship, investigating countless forms of mysticism, studying astrology and numerology as well as exploring different religions-- until she comes to a startling conclusion which frankly, I found rather absurd.
Descriptions of the various belief systems get a little wonk-ish and Amanda’s use of numerology to argue for her “perceived true role in life” didn’t add up for me as a reader. I found it quite preposterous.
The writing is engaging and fast paced. I think had this book been labeled a work of pure fiction perhaps as a reader I would have received it better. The many “so called” revelations would have definitely produced far fewer eye-rolls.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my nonreciprocal review.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. So, here goes!

This is almost like a memoir and full of recollections of the events that occurred throughout the protagonist's life. The main theme of this story is Love between two people. A kind of love that cannot be suppressed no matter what kind of situations life throws at them. The writer has done extremely well in portraying her feelings at every stage of a dynamic relationship that transcended even Death.

The book was rather long but after finishing the whole story, you realise that every small detail that is mentioned somehow connects with the protagonist's past and future. Deep spiritual themes come up later in the story and the writer details out her own experiences with the supernatural and metaphysical. All in all, a very interesting read.

From Stardust to Babylon is more than a love story; you will be transported over time and space. Stardust to Babylon, a Romance, begins in a normal way. The main character is a sixteen year old, and unaware of her natural beauty. She lives a normal life in a small town. Then she falls in love and everything changes, including the everyday world. I love the way the author teases the reader at the beginning with little quirks in time and deja vu's. The characters seem to be skipping through time and relieving ancient memories they have somehow carried to the modern world. You will want to read more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interested in the concept of reincarnation or life after death, then surely give this book a try...!!! 7 Nov. 2016
By Sushant Sawant - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I must say that this book is quite different from most of the books. This book I feel can't be categorized into any particular genre per say. This books starts as a normal love story and I expected the book to continue on the similar lines. But as I continued reading, this book took me by surprised as it converted from a love story to sort of demonical nature. With the paranormal activities taking place, this book generated interest which forbids me from putting this book down. The story progresses and the horror story got converted into spirituality and sort of thriller as Amanda Bucan starts joining the broken pieces of the puzzle.

The best thing about the book is the transitioning between these different sections. The transitioning is butter smooth and the entire book just feels like a poetry in motion wherein the readers effortlessly transitions from one section to the other. Coming to the characters, I could completely connect with the characters right from the beginning of the book. Amanda Bucan has written this book in the first person's point of view and being a person who loves to read books written in first person's view, this book gets extra brownie points from my side.

This book also mentions and touches on the topic of "Life After Death" or raher I should say "Love Beyond Death". So if you are believer in this concept or even if you are not, this book might give you a complete new as well as a rational perspective to this entire concept. Even at the end of this book, Amanda has attached few photographs which she click which might get you interested in this concept as those definitely got me interested.
4.0 out of 5 stars A love story with supernatural elements 12 Sept. 2016

4.0 out of 5 stars She also writes really well and I thoroughly enjoyed her rendition of youth in the 80’s 13 Sept. 2016
By Donna Wright - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Wow, what a book, at least the first half which deserves five stars. Whether the author is recounting a paranormal event or a parapsychological reaction to trauma, she is so brutally open and honest about her emotions, the story is not just engrossing but utterly plausible; I believed every word she said. She also writes really well and I thoroughly enjoyed her rendition of youth in the 80’s, but the “but” to this critique is that the wildly rambling second half literally snuffs out the twin flame at the heart of the book. I was waiting for a proper conclusion but instead the author's mystical quest for answers, or rather the answers themselves, was simply too big an ask of me.
5.0 out of 5 stars Anachronisms in Egyptian Footsteps 11 Sept. 2016
By Amelia Arcamone-Makinano - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
From Stardust to Babylon begins like a normal Romance. The protagonist is 16 and not yet aware of her natural beauty. She lives in a small, boring town. Then she falls in love. It is not until their relationship is well established that their normal universe begins to crack. And a light from a different time and universe starts to seep through. There are ancient emotions that bubble up in the modern world, like puddles of anachronisms in Egyptian footsteps. Deja vu's, Regrets. I love the way the author takes her time and lets the story naturally unfold. It will make you want to read more.
