Seizure Wet Dreams more than lived up to my expectations of it. I had heard about Social Disease (the publisher) via an article in the Guardian, and liked their attitude and ideas. SD's first book did not dissapoint! Here are short stories and poems which exist in a kind of junkie and political hell: the writing is sharp and so visceral you may want to wash your hands after putting the book down.

Highlights were "Dr. Ira" a heinous doctor who dispenses methadone to his patients via a giant rubber phallus, a clever and smart short story entitles "Balls" which is worth the price of admission alone and just the general attitude of the writing which is completely take-no-prisoners. I have also read the authors furst book, Digging the vein which is slightly more conventional than the experimental prose contained in this book, and it seems that the author is now spinning off into some fascinating and startlingly original directions. there's nothing else quite like this book on the market, and it fits pretty much into a genre of one.

I am fascinated to see what Social Disease will put out next. I for one am happy that the age of the independent publisher with personality and fire is back. If they keep this up SD could be the next Black Sparrow or Olympia Press.

Buy this book, read the story balls, then read O'Neill's other book Digging the Vein, and then check out all the other Brutalist and offbeat Generation writers on the scene. Seizure Wet Dreams is electric writing packed with raw emotion, scintillating!
