This was the first Lisa Kleypas book i read and i read it non stop till in was finished i think it took me all of 2 days. the characters you fall in love with staight away, as annabelle only wants to help her family and simon ony wants what he shouldn't have (accroding to the book) the setting of the book is great as your imagination runs away with it.

All the Wallflowers books are excellent and get better and better as you get to know all 4 women, i was lucky and had bought all 4 at once and i say you should do the same so you'r not left wondering what is going to hapen.

This book has humour, fun, dancing and love, trust me if you enjoy reading then read this book. as it was my first romance regency type book its a good place to start off. ENJOY

Lisa has outdone herself this time. It is different than her other stories. The chemistry between Annabelle and Simon is great. Simon is Mr Right for her and it took her a while to find out. The interplay between them was so romantic and the rest of the book was equal fantastic. I can't wait to get my hands on the next wallflower, Lillian Bowman. This woman is pretty feisty. Another wlecoming change. Just so refreshing.

The story is quite absorbing and the characters quite well drawn. The minimal reaction of the heroine to something appalling endured by her mother is disturbing, and seems to be represented that way purely in the service of the plot. In addition to poor proofreading, which has missed a number of words run together, the main problem is, again, American idiom and lack of knowledge of period detail, particular money equivalents.

'Secrets of a Summer Night'is the first Lisa Kleypas book i've read. I was abit dubious because of the mixed reviews, but was still tempted by the main wallflower plot. So I gave into temptation and was glad i did, as this book was excellent. It was so good i read it within 2days! I loved all the characters, the relationships between the main characters espescially Simon and Annabel was believable. I love how its not just about tragedy, heaving bosoms, confused females, and manly men. Theres also comedy and funny moments within the story. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

I have just reread 'Secrets' and I enjoyed it even more this time round. Anyone who likes Lisa Kleypas' writing will love this series and if you haven't tried her, do! Some reviewers have said that they loved Simon but found Annabelle shallow and a snob. I think the whole point of the story is just that - these are changing times in English society, when aristocrats, born to titles and property, were having to make huge changes to their expectations; their properties could no longer provide the wealth which they had been accustomed to and on which they lived, and these people had to actually think about how to maintain their inheritance. Hence the forward-looking ones started to invest in the technology of the day - and of course this would reflect on the women, who were brought up, like Annabelle, in a rarified atmosphere where they only had to think about how to look good and marry well. I therefore found it touching and poignant that whereas Simon had made his way and made himself acceptable in the higher echelons of society through his own strong values and business acumen, Annabelle was still stuck with the expectation that she would marry well and put right her family's fortunes. She simply wasn't equipped to deal with marrying outside her class, and her mother naturally wanted to push her in the expected direction of marrying a title and money. I don't think that she was a snob, just a girl who was trying to live the life she was born to but with a huge burden on her young[ish] shoulders; she didn't know how to cope when things changed, essentially though her own inate honesty.Read more ›

Another read from LK that is just a little bit different from the usual in the historical romance genre.

The heroine here is definitely different. At times I struggled to like her, she was quite mercenary and determined to "marry a peer" by any means possible. Yet, I also admired her for it. While it did not make her come across as a particularly sympathetic character, she was doing the only thing she COULD do, given her circumstances and the time she lived in, to try and secure not only her future, but the future of her mother and little Brother. What other choice did she have? other then some very unsavoury offers. She could not just sit and wait and hope, she had to be pro active and maybe be a bit underhanded as time was not on her side.

The hero, Simon was great, again a man who had gone a different path and forged his own way, making himself something more.

If nothing else, it just worked to highlight the difference between men and women then - Simon a man born a commoner, decided his own future, forged his own path, made it to a position of power and privilege, yet Annabelle supposedly born into privilege, and being quite intelligent herself, had no option other than to be wife or mistress - who could blame her for being so mercenary and ambitious in trying to find a husband.

And I loved loved loved it once they were married. Annabelle learned and grew, and saw outside her narrow world of the Ton, to what life was like for others not in the small narrow view. And she grew as a person due to it.

Chock full or passion and romance, another excellent historical by LK.
