Format: Paperback
As a basic guide to getting your first bite out of the topics it's a very good book, it will explain to you the basic principles of the languages inside, but don't expect to be an expert at any of these after getting through it.

It's a beginners guide (a good one at that) but you'll probably need to invest in other book(s) one you are done with this one.
That is not to say that you should skip this one, as I said it does provide essential foundations.

I bought this book because I want to learn Ajax and PHP from scratch. I am reasonably familiar with JavaScript.

This book turns out to be definitely for beginners, and with plenty of duplicate codes everywhere.

The book didn't cover that much, but it did cover it in all the detail I needed. If you've done a bit of html before, this book is for you.

Worth the money I'd say.

Great book. I bought this book long ago, and it really helped me on the path to development. which I do for a hobby, not a living, although I am a tech-head. This book's teaching style is fantastically effective.

Good points:
* Easy to follow, easy to read, easy to learn.
* It doesn't let you bite off more than you can chew in one hit.
* Good reading flow. You don't find yourself jumping around the book to re-read other sections.

Unique about this book:
* One thing I should have realised, but didn't at the time, is a great selling point of this book is that you're done with it so quickly that you can resell it pretty quick. So you can get most of your money back towards a book that's more advanced.

Downsides:
* I wished there were more Javascript tuition in here, but there is not that much, however there is just enough to wet your appetite. I purchased JavaScript: The Good Parts shortly after, and that book more than filled the gap - awesome book!

Overall:
If you're starting out, and you want to learn Ajax, PHP, and little Javascript - buy this book, simple as that. Then sell it and buy a more advanced book. Otherwise you'll find the advanced book too daunting as a first off.
