What an absolutely fabulous read. It conveys how it must feel to be in a riot situation and tells the tales of our brave Police officers who put themselves bravely in the line of danger when anarchy takes hold.

This book made me feel proud to be British, and ashamed, both at the same time, The police have one of the hardest job's, at this book showed, that they need much more respect. It has recently been said the riots, could well happen again, the fact the police are now even fewer in number, is frankly frightening, we can only hope that this brave defenders of our safety are listened too, and that lessons are heeded. One thing that came through loud and clear, is that we must address the reasons why so man young people, feel so angry and disillusioned, I consider myself a pacifist, but reading this made me feel the police should of been able to use more force, and something put into place, which means people could of been arrested there and then, without the need for a member of the police, to go off the street's, to do paperwork, some holding centre?. If the rioters had seen others dragged off, it would of reduced the amount on the streets, and made visual impact on others thinking the streets were lawless, which clearly for some time that was the case, I can't even begin to imagine what the emergency services endured, but they need better services, and deserve them. One thing I didn't feel was many if any changes have been made. I hope I'm wrong, I can only hope this never happens again. Hats off to everyone who experienced the horror. A must read especially for those in power, extremely insightful must read book.

Eagerly anticipated the arrival of my order and was not disappointed!
An hour in (page 78) I had chills up my spine, felt as frustrated as Richard and terrified for Darren.
It's an intense read, I was right in with the officers, realising that I was actually holding my breath with them as they took each junction.
The bravery, the stamina, the sheer bloody stubbornness of those few who defended us during such dreadful times. And for so very little thanks, pray God it never happens again and if it does mistakes are learnt from, ( plus they find a big supply of stickers - go on buy it just to find out what that's about).
I cannot imagine the amount of work that went into this book, the research. It stands as a brilliant documentation of the experience for those on the ground and a thrilling read for those of us who just couldn't understand what the hell happened.
Bravo, Mr Matthews, Bravo.
Bring out your next book soon....

What a great collection of accounts. It's good to hear from the boots on the ground... this is unapologetically truthful. Really goes far towards humanising the badge!
