Packed with vital and cutting-edge information on everything from building the ultimate birth plan, to your choices and rights in the birth room; from optimal cord clamping, to seeding the microbiome; from the inside track on breastfeeding, to woman-centred caesarean, The Positive Birth Book shows you how to have the best possible birth, regardless of whether you plan to have your baby in hospital, in the birth centre, at home or by elective caesarean. Challenging negativity and fear of childbirth, and brimming with everything you need to know about labour, birth, and the early days of parenting, The Positive Birth Book is the must-have birth book for women of the 21st century.

Milli Hill is a writer who lives in Somerset with her partner and three small children. In 2012 she set up The Positive Birth Movement (PBM), a global network of antenatal discussion groups, with the aim of improving childbirth and giving women better access to support and information, not anticipating the huge appetite among women for more positive messages about birth. What started as a small idea became a global phenomenon, with over 400 groups around the world. As well as running the PBM, Milli also writes for various publications about all things birth, breastfeeding and motherhood. For over two years she wrote a popular column for Best magazine, and she's now a columnist for Telegraph Women.

I'm 40 and six months pregnant with my first baby. I've read several books, as before getting pregnant I knew nothing about any of it! (Obviously still have a lot to learn.) This is by far & away the best book I've read. It's clear, fair, full of information, and is an empowering read. It's not in any way 'preachy', & I didn't feel there was any hidden agenda. A lot that I read before made me fearful because of my age, and being - apparently 'high risk' - but this book has banged it all firmly into perspective for me, and I'm so grateful. It's made me feel that natural birth and modern medical science do not have to be mutually exclusive. The style is easy to read, flows well, and makes you feel like a friend is chatting to you. Huge thanks.

Possibly the best birth book I have read, have been brought to tears by its accuracy and the beautiful mothers stories and also laughed out loud at other parts. A well-rounded and honest description of birth and a must for every expectant parent. Will recommend this to everyone I can.

I'm a big reader, and mum to two kids, suffice to say I've read a lot of books about birth, and this one is right up there as essential reading. Positive, inspiring, refreshingly honest, non judgemental of you whatever your choices, I would recommend this to all parents to be, fantastic stuff.

This book is here to tell you that you matter to" the first line of a completely fabulous book. Through my midwifery training I read tonnes of books on pregnancy and birth..... this one is a keeper. This is a book for all women who believe in choice and a positive outlook on life... why should childbirth be any different?!? This gives a realistic unbiased account of what labour and birth is really like from home birth to a planned caesarean woman to woman, mother to mother. BUY IT for yourself, your pregnant friend sister cousin wife or girlfriend.... they will thank you forever!

A great book, and not just for mums and mums to be - this should be required reading for midwives and obstetricians too because is challenges the power dynamic and goes a long way to redressing the balance in favour of women, knowledge is power ladies - and this the key to the door!

I was lucky enough to read a preview copy and have since been recommending it to all my pregnant friends. Whatever a positive birth means to you, this book will make you believe you can do it. It contains everything you might ever want to know about birth and is written in a relaxed, chatty style. I wish I had read it before I had my two children!
