Yes , it does make you think , but the only thoughts it seems to suggest is that all human beings are , at they core , greedy , vengeful, violent , competitive and some , naive . The worst of humanity . What about the other side of the the coin ? There is very very little of it in this book .
The story describes a future where social media, social currency and an obsession with appearance and youth are the cultural foundations for a new Western society. The main protagonist is a young women who is torn between conforming and questioning the status quo.
The only criticism I have is probably a very personal one - two of the main characters' names are very similar and sometimes I lost concentration and had to go back so I didn't lose the plot!
Would recommend for all ages and genders - this is not just a teen book.
The writing is good, the story is enthralling, I cried at the end of it. Well worth reading - but have something to cheer you up afterwards and think about how we can avoid this future!!
