“Joomla! is about allowing ordinary people to do extraordinary things, and that is exactly what the authors of this book do for its readers. … I present this book for your pleasure. It begins with how we began and takes you on a journey through which you can be empowered to reach the world.”
―From the Foreword by Andrew Eddie, Member of the Joomla! Production Leadership Team

The information is there, but I'm finding it hard to read.
The illustrations appear to be paragraphs after the text that describes them and the layout is just generally poor. I'm also finding key information tend to be hidden at the end of sentances.
Saying all that I've not managed to read it all, so it may improve after Chapter 4....
However, so far my summary would be, it is a book that needs to be read very carefully (almost studied) and is not something that can be easily dipped into (especially for the inexperienced developer)
Other reviewers have highlighted that this is really a book for people who don't know much about building websites or web management and who are considering Joomla! for their site build. I would agree. It is quite useful at giving you a broad overview of the concepts in Joomla! such as articles, categories, extensions, menu manager and so on - but the majority of the book deals with how to build a site, covering marketing, principles of web design, layout etc. None of which is specific to Joomla!, although the slant here is obviously using Joomla! as your CMS.
So while it has a fairly useful, broad overview of how Joomla! works, if you are a relatively experienced web practitioner, you won't need quite a lot of this book, and will be able to find most of what you need elsewhere.

There is very little about customising templates in this book, and seeing as that was the main reason I bought it, it gets a very low rating from me. Read morePublished on 31 Jan. 2012 by J. Spybey
This is not a good introduction to Joomla. And it is not a book that is easy to learn joomla from. It explains all the concepts one by one but you have to read most several times... Read morePublished on 15 Mar. 2011 by Lars Tougaard
