Product description

Review

"The Marshmallow Test is a tour de force. Despite its serious academic content, it wears its learning lightly ... this book will make [Mischel] as much of a household name as his marshmallows are." (Natalie Gold The Times)

"This is a complex book that explores human nature, neuroscience and genetics, enlivened by a sprinkling of anecdotes. It's also a book that can show you how to change your behaviour: whether it's finally setting up that pension, cutting your alcohol intake or shunning the marshmallows for good." (Rosamund Urwin Evening Standard)

"This is a genial, optimistic book and a rather soothing read ... it provides an important and largely painless insight into a profound transformation in psychology" (The Sunday Times)

"Walter Mischel is one of the most influential psychologists of the 20th century, and The Marshmallow Test will make him one of the most influential in this century, too." (Steven Pinker)

"A top five psychology title" (Independent on Sunday)

Accessible read that is both fascinating and has the potential to help change the way we approach self-control. Solid psychological research that is clearly applicable to everyday life. I have always been interested in the marshmallow test studies since I first heard of them years ago but nearly didn't buy this book as I thought it would be about our future success in life is predetermined from an early age. Instead, the book reveals how we can develop better self-control skills by cooling down our 'hot' impulsive reactions. There's hope for me (and my hothead firstborn) after all! Will definitely be implementing these insights into my own life.

An excellent book full of facts and insights told in an engaging way. I recommend for anyone interested in psychology, and also enormously helpful for me as a teacher; this book gave me hundreds of ideas to help the children in my class.

A book that promotes a very useful idea. It builds on the foundation of childhood behavior and promotes the concept that self control is central to all achievements. It was impossible to put down and was read in two sessions over a weekend.
