`I love this book . . . it's gripping and packed with adventures'
`Enchanting debut ... witty, warm-hearted and as delectable as one of the dishes it describes, this is as much a hymn to the culinary arts as to the magic of kindness, and is recommended for 6-9s'

I can't wait to read the next two books now. My only criticism is that it was a short book, but that's from my perspective as an adult reading a book aimed at children.
Monsieur Lard, owner of a feted but disgusting Parisian restaurant, comes across some of Madame's amazing pate, that is so divine it brings the greatest restaurant critic in Paris to his restaurant. He is determined to wrestle the recipe from Madame Pamplemousse, and will stop at nothing to achieve it, even enlisting his unwilling and put upon niece Madeleine to act as his spy.
This is a wonderful story full of unexpected humour, dark twists and turns and a real sense of playfulness. My children all loved it, and we are about to embark on our second volume of Madame Pamplemousse's adventures.
