Review

The positive experiences of gay men's lives documented in this book, alongside the continued narratives of marginalisation and hurt, are a potent reminder of both the achievements won for equality as well as the distance left to travel. --Mark McCormack, Ph.D., author of The Declining Significance of Homophobia.

An important project, not only for the moving tales of youthful struggle that many will recognise, and the wonderful wisdom displayed by the adult tellers, but because it will - we can only hope - one day form part of the historical documentation of a time and a set of attitudes that have passed. --Alex Marwood novelist and author of The Wicked Girls

This book helps to heal our younger selves so that our future selves are in a better place. Invaluable, insightful, and when shared like this, it stops us from feeling alone. Proof that time can heal, things do change. --QBoy - recording artist & presenter of Channel 4's 'Coming Out To Class'

I loved Love Me As I Am and I learned a lot from this book. It is not an easy read, in the sense that the contributors shared their personal very difficult stories of growing up in a world that was intollerant or lacked understanding of what it is like to be very young and realise you are gay and quite alone.
I admire their guts for being so honest about their life experiences. Above all the message that comes out of Love Me As I Am can apply to any person, any age, regardless of sexual preference. Believe in and love yourself as you are and be true to your values. I know plenty of people who could benefit from this book and most of them are not gay!

The book is a step forward in healing our Planet. The lives and struggles of our fellow Human Beings teach us, that Love is the answer. Let this book imprint in our hearts, how important it is to accept our fellow sisters and brothers in spite of our differences. I salute all who shared their lives, thank you. Your contribution is valuable. You are the Light.

Love Me As I Am is a collection of so many touching and heartfelt stories. Some of them, if not downright sad, at least carry an undertone of sadness. I won't be surprised if some of these gay men carry their scars for life. But, why? Why should it be necessary for these men to even tell their stories? Stories that, if it weren't for their reference to sexual orientation, perhaps needn't have to be told. At best, if it weren't for their homosexuality many of the contributors in the book would've live very ordinary lives.
In many instances, people's skewed perceptions of what the Bible say and how they interpret the particular verses referring to homosexuality played a massive part in the lives of many of these men. Upon reflection, I have to ask: What is the point of it all, when it brings so much harm?
As a mother of a gay child and having met many gay people throughout the years, I have made a few observations. One of which is the fact that gay people, when coming out of the proverbial closet, experience a period of `real' adolescence, regardless of their age. Some will start clubbing or explore things that are not always fit for their age, just because all of a sudden they have a freedom that they did not have before. I found this in quite a few of the stories... and it sadly only magnifies the destructive elements within the gay community.
I so wish I could meet these men, if only to give each of them a hug and to say: "Everything is okay. I love them exactly the way they are." But I also know that for some of them it can never replace the love of a father or mother that they have to go without. I also wish that all parents of gay children will read this book.

This book is stimulating of mind, and is likened to actual reports of individual guys experiences.
The book deals with each story in its entirety, and some very useful information is held there, culminating in a summary and reply -
with recommendations from someone who evaluates each story.
A useful book which explores versions of experiences that will be of interest to many.
