I love mid-century style but am often put off by... well.. how OLD it can make a room look. This book inspired me to integrate my love of 50s and 70s interior design but with a modern twist. And the best part is I can still shop at Habitat. YAY!

I thought this book was truly excellent - beautiful photographs and explanations for the different retro styles. Really great inspiration, and I would whole heartedly recommend this book.

Stacks of photos of mid century interiors including some real shockers (thankfully there are some more normal rooms too). Good for inspiration regarding details. Features a fair few American 'ranch' houses. Could do with a few more interiors in smaller British houses as far as I'm concerned but then it doesn't advertise itself as showing these so can't complain...

3.0 out of 5 stars Mix and Serve: Modern / Living / Retro / Furniture, episode ??? 24 Sept. 2014
By Steve Schuh - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
“Decorating with midcentury modern furniture” could be the tagline of about a dozen titles by this author, photographer, and publisher, together and separately. This reprint of the 2008 installment of the Andrew Weaving franchise continues the theme with 17 Architectural Digest-type articles – part homeowner story, part interior design advertisement – showcasing modernist furniture in several residential settings, from factory conversions to midcentury ranches (of the Palm Springs variety) to newer MCM-inspired constructions, all modestly-sized and perfectly livable. Weaving’s three ‘living retro’ categories of purist, idiosyncratic, and maximalist muddle more than clarify, and fans thinking about the author’s next book would encourage him to scout locations beyond his own neighborhood, for variety’s sake. But for those looking for another hit of MCM furniture eye-candy, there are some lovely pictures here, each proving vintage furniture is still right at home in the 21st Century.

5.0 out of 5 stars Purchases made easy 6 Feb. 2010

I wanted books on mid-century furnishing and decor. A coffee table book.

Amazon not only made it easy but I saved money and got exactly what I was seeking. I had not seen the two books I purchased prior to go on Amazon so I wasn't sure if when I got them they would contain the types of info and illustrations I was hoping for.

Perfect choose thanks to the user friendly site. I will order from Amazon again.

This book rivals Amy Lau's book Expressive Modern and is a great addition to my library. Inspiring pictures and information on the furniture and accessories displayed. Now let me pop over to Amy's book and write a review :)
