Amazon Review

Best-selling psychic Sylvia Browne offers a detailed account of life in heaven in Life On the Other Side. Readers should be warned that it takes a huge leap of faith to follow this celebrity psychic across the chasm of doubt to the Other Side. In her opening chapters she explains that she is like the young boy in the movie The Sixth Sense, she sees dead people. When she was a child these "spirits" came into her room at night and disappeared when a light went on. "To this day I can't sleep in a completely dark room, because the minute I try it the room starts filling up", she writes. "As a child, it was scary. As an adult, it's just annoying!"

Once she establishes her lengthy connections to life after death (including conversations with a spirit guide named Francine and her own near-death experience), Browne launches into life in the fourth dimension. In a chapter titled "After the Tunnel, Arriving on the Other Side", Browne explains that newcomers pass through a "Hall of Wisdom" and then review their most recent life through a "Scanning Machine". In the chapter "Beyond the Entrance", Brown claims that spirits live in whatever kind of home they've longed for, or they recreate a favourite home from Earth. Plus, "the more spiritually advanced we become, the more physical beauty we are given, as a badge of our progress and hard work". Sex is known as "merging", and does not require birth control or any commitments of exclusivity. These kinds of glowing accounts of the other side cause sceptics to sneer, believers to feel comforted and thousands of fans to keep on buying her books. --Gail Hudson

A friend of mind recommended this book after a conversation that we had just had about small children remembering a past life. I thought that the book would be along the same lines but was very disappointed to find that it was just another book about someone's idea of the after-life but with quite a strong influence of their Catholic upbringing. I found the inclusion of "sin" in an unending universal world consisting only of energy, something that only a Catholic would be hanging onto. It must be deeply ingrained but I suppose that one's upbringing will always affect any ideas about the afterlife and that all of us have our own take on this. I only managed to read about 25% of the book as it was fairly boring. Sorry Sylvia.

This book changed me from atheist to spiritualist who has realised I am psychic! I stopped the 'my eyes are playing tricks on me' mantra, and began to 'see' opposed to the vacant human glazed 'look'

I love this book. It's values and beliefs. It helps me in bad times as how can one be so self critical when she planned this life, and the mistakes, prior to her arrival. Although real me... You could have made it a little easier. Without this book, I would have never started looking at that shadow, seeing dead pets, people, objects move, smells. I am now a sucessful tarot reader, just because I believed.

I bet other books have similar ideas but the detail inside are different. REMEMBER this is Sylvia's version of heaven. all descriptions would vary, it's about what could be possible, which is mirrored in other books. My heaven would be a lot less Ancient Greek and a lot more beach.

I have been a firm believer in the afterlife since childhood as it was always talked about freely in my family. However, there were questions i had which i could never find an answer to, even after reading numerous books and having a handful of sittings with mediums. Let me tell you now that this book answered all of my questions and firmly reinforced my beliefs. It also gave me comfort as i have lost both my Parents and particulary miss my Mom and now know what happened to her and what will happen when we are reunited.
I have recommended this book to many people and have lent it out. In all cases it has given them the same comfort and belief.
The book is written in an easy to read style and i literally could not put it down when i first read it. I have read it a few times since too.
Highly recommended if you are curious, want answers or are missing and mourning someone you love. Check out other Slyvia Browne books too. Not all are as good as this one but worth a read. - Enjoy. I hope this helps you.

this woman is a fluid writer and has an amazing imagination. Psycics do not have all the answers, know everything, that is not how it works. I believe she believes it. so does her bank manager. But this stuff is such good ammunition for the debunkers it gives psychics a bad name.

I have an open mind on the spiritual dimension of our human life, and read Sylvia's book with such an open mind. Having finished it though I doubt whether I would want to explore her view of the Other Side in much more detail.
There are too many statements that are not explored fully enough, leaving more questions than answers, and her own experience this lifetime appears to dull her objectivity on more than one occasion.
For example - If we go to such lengths to plan our lives in great detail, how is that those Dark spirits who enter the Other Side through the Left Door are immediately reborn without any review, reorientation or planning for their next life. And how fair is it that some soon to be mother should find herself giving birth to this disturbed soul.
In the wider scheme of exploring different writers view on the after life Sylvia is probably worth a read through, but she may not be the definitive guide she believes herself to be,

Psychic Sylvia Browne provides a detailed look at her own life, her interactions with spirits and angels of all kinds, and what it has taught her about life before and after death. Take this as one woman's account of a fascinating life, and you've found yourself some very interesting reading. Take this as a spiritual metaphor for your religious beliefs, and you will find comfort in your new understanding. Take this as fiction, and you will be at the edge of your seat. Take this as the unexplained, and you will have a terrific mystery to unravel.
Ms. Browne has been in contact with spiritual figures from a young age, and she has made her life's work helping people to come to grips with issues they have concerning their connections to the spiritual world. She often uses deep hypnosis in her work, and reports on the consistent patterns of recalled former lives. She also shares the experiences of her own life, including a spiritual guide, Francine, who often speaks through her and her own near-death experience.
In the 1950s there was a famous case of potential reincarnation discovered through hypnosis involving Bridey Murphy. Ms. Browne refers to that case, and supplements it with her own findings. I found Ms. Browne's portrayal more convincing than the original Bridey Murphy material. For example, some of what she describes could be seen as a form of schizophrenia. Concerned about that, she arranges to have herself tested, and finds that she does not have that disease. She also runs a test whereby a psychiatrist picked 20 random patients, and asked Francine to say how they died. Francine was correct 19 of 20 times, and provided interesting new insights into the 20th case.
