5.0 out of 5 stars Good guide very satisfied 15 Oct. 2013

After reading the reviews of Streetwise Florence maps, I decided to order the Knopf guide instead. I like Streetwise because its more compact, thin and waterproof, and I used Streetwise for Rome. However, because Florence seems to be divided by neighborhoods many reviewers didnt like Streetwise maps for Florence. Once you get the hang of this map its a nice summary and easy to use with maps and a few tidbits that include shopping and restaurants in each area. We used some of the restaurant recommendations which turned out to be be better than we expected, espeically IL LATINO, which was a true feast of decadence!
4.0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but probably better than its competition 16 Feb. 2014

I spent six weeks in Florence recently and used this pocket-sized guide every day. The fold-out district maps, which have only two folds, allow for a much larger scale than most other maps (certainly than single sheet maps, which are only useful until you get sick of constantly unfolding them and then trying to work out how to fold them up again). I found the Knopf maps extremely accurate. However, their weak point is that the districts have been selected without regard to the positions of points of intersection between the maps, so that (unlike a conventional street directory) you cannot just walk from one map into another without first working out just how the streets connect, which can be difficult in the dark, or when it's raining and you don't have the luxury of time to carefully work it out. The problem is made worse by the fact that the book becomes unwieldy if you have two different maps unfolded at the same time. Another slight annoyance is that the areas covered do not extend far enough out of the Centre for you to walk to all the sights - although 90% are covered. For example, the important Last Supper at San Salvi, about 30 minutes walk out of town into the suburbs, is off-map, and you need to get a smaller-scale single sheet map from somewhere else to find it. Likewise, if you are walking along the river via the Parco Calcine to see the "Indian" - a monument to a young rajah who died in Florence in the nineteenth century- you quickly walk out of the book's range. However, I do recommend the guide, as it is superior to all other offerings - it just could be better!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Map Guide No Matter What Part of Town You're In 22 Aug. 2011

Knopf Guides have become my "go-to" guides whenever and wherever I travel. Each of the half dozen fold out map sections is dedicated to a particular area of the city and highlights restaurants, bars, coffee houses, shopping, entertainment AND museums in that neighborhood. The guide describes each area of the city (touristy, working class, high-fashion, etc) so you really get an understanding of your surroundings. Sure, "top-10 guides" are great for the big picture of a city, but when you're starving after walking around all day at museums, nothing beats opening up the Knopf Guide and finding an amazing bistro only a few blocks away.
5.0 out of 5 stars The best! 17 April 2012

I have used both the Rome and Paris map books and found them to be fabulous!! Easy to carry, easy to read and compact so you don't have to fold those miserable city maps. It breaks down the map by neighbourhood and specifies some of the things to see. We use it mainly for the map. Throw away those hotel maps!! Loved them so much that I bought a 2nd Rome, 2 additional copies of Paris for friends, Venice, Florence, Barcelona & London. Highly recommend them.
